Hotels for Visiting Gtown

Hi, I am bringing my family to DC to visit Gtown, GWU and AU. We'd prefer to stay right in Gtown close to the university but something in between Gtown and GWU is ok too. The focus is really on visiting the colleges, not sightseeing, as we have all seen the sites of DC before, and we are packing a lot in a short amount of time. What hotels do you all recommend?

Also, have you found that Gtown does any Sat tours in the winter / spring?

I stayed at the Key Bridge Marriott when I visited in the summer, it really is just a short walk over the F.S.K. Bridge and you’re in the Georgetown neighborhood, only a few blocks from the University.

GW is a bit more into the DC metro area, so from that hotel you’ll probably need to take a taxi, but they are readily available.

And the hotel was extremely nice too! Hard to go wrong in my opinion when staying there for visiting Georgetown.

Why not stay on campus? They have a hotel.

Other options in the heart of Georgetown include Georgetown Inn, Ritz Carlton, and Four Seasons. Key Bridge Marriott is also fine but that’s across the bridge in VA. So are the other myriad hotels in Roslyn, VA. On the other hand being in Roslyn may be a bit more affordable and there is Metro access for going to GW.

you can stay at any hotel in rosslyn, VA. there is a bus that picks up near the rosslyn metro stop that takes you to georgetown’s campus. for gwu and au, you can take metros because they both have metro stops near their campuses

If I were there for touring purposes, the Ritz or Four Seasons would be very appealing, but when we’re doing college tours (and there are 4 of us, necessitating 2 rooms), and the purpose of the hotel is to be in the immediate area but be a place to rest our heads at not, I’m interested in something a little less pricey. Are there Hampton Inns or Embassy Suites or Doubletrees in that area that someone has experience with and might recommend?

Yeah Rosslyn is good. You should get a feel for what the walk across the Key Bridge is anyway. As mentioned there’s also the shuttle that runs from Rosslyn to campus if you don’t feel like walking. Rosslyn metro stop is 1 stop away from GWU and several from AU.

If you are only visiting Gtown then stay at one of the hotels in georgetown. If you are visiting gwu/Au and touring the sites then I’d recommend a hotel off a metro stop, Rosslyn being the most convenient for Georgetown.

Quick update from your friendly travel agent re: 1789’s post…

Don’t look for that hotel on Marriott’s website, it’s no longer a Marriott. Has a generic name now like “Georgetown University” or something. Just FYI.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn that was about a 10 minute walk from Georgetown. It was very nice, and not too expensive.

Westin Grand is on M St. in between Georgetown and GW. It is a lovely hotel.

Georgetown Suites were pretty nice. Pretty good sized rooms and right off M Street.
