Hi!
I'm looking for a very affordable but decent hotel in New Orleans with cheap parking. Not sure if this is possible, but I was wondering if anybody has suggestions for decent places to go.
Thanks!

The Hampton Inn and the Best Western, both on St. Charles Avenue next to each other, are popular choices. I know the parking at the Best Western is free, not sure about the Hampton Inn. The streetcar is literally a few steps out the front door. Affordability varies with when you want to be there. Needless to say move-in weekend is busy and probably fully booked already, not sure about parents weekend. Just google <hotel name=“”> and St. Charles Avenue and it should pop up.</hotel>

I will be releasing a reservation tomorrow at La Maison St Charles. So if they are full now for move in weekend there should be at least one room available. We have stayed there twice - the rooms are fine at a great Tulane price $69 but a $17 parking charge. They, too, are on the streetcar route but a fit farther away.

Hampton Inn has free parking, but I believe they are sold out as well.

i second the maison st. charles. they’re really cheap there, and they have free wireless, amazing a/c, a pool, free breakfast, and great staff. the location is awesome too- you’re only about 20 minutes on the streetcar from tulane, and a very short ride from the french quarter.

if you mention that you’re a fan of them on facebook, you’ll get a 30% discount and free parking. :D

Anyone know what the current “Tulane rate” is at the Hampton inn? We have a room reserved earlier in that move in week

I don’t believe there is a Tulane rate for the move-in days. There was for orientation, but move-in is a sellers market. I think we got a rate of about $165 or so booking some months ago.

When I went on to make my reservations, which I did late because I had no idea my D wanted me to come down with her until a couple of weeks ago, the Hilton site said $199, and I am one of their most preferred customers (which is handy when traveling but otherwise quite sad, lol). The only reason it was even showing me a room is that they always save 1 or 2 rooms for Diamond members or company execs until the last couple of days. At the same time, the Riverside Hilton was only $89!! Needless to say I took that. Just goes to show, for move-in weekend it is location, location, location.

I saw, I believe, $139 on the Tulane website, but got $104 with military discount. AAA rate (prepaid) was $115, I believe. But, we are going earlier in the week to get him settled, and will probably leave Friday before the big rush of freshmen/sophomores. We like the corner rooms with the bigger area and sofabed for him and the cr*p we dont want to leave in the car. They have also improved their breakfast= no more of those weird sunnyside up egg things that looked like eyeballs staring at you!!

We always stay at either the New Orleans Marriott at the Convention Center, the
Courtyard by Marriott New Orleans Convention Center, or the Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center (all well-rated properties). There is plenty of FREE street parking on South Peters Street. We always pay under $100 per night (as long as there is no convention going on). They are all within walking distance of the Riverwalk & Harrah’s. However, if you don’t plan on renting a car, then this is not the place for you. There are still great deals to be had for this year’s move-in weekend on [Cheap Flights, Hotels, Airline Tickets, Cheap Tickets, Cheap Travel Deals - KAYAK - Compare Hundreds of Travel Sites At Once](http://www.kayak.com).

Much as I would normally like to stay someplace more interesting than Metarie, I see this as a working weekend. We will have a rental car since we will be getting stuff for the room, so I booked at the Residence Inn in Metarie for $99. Expedia lists several hotels clustered around I-10 and N. Causeway Blvd in the $100 neighborhood. Free parking, free breakfast and near both Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond, where I think we will need to go, like, several times. Shows it as a 15 minute trip to Tulane. Next time someplace more interesting.

^^ That makes perfect sense if you fly in or are coming from the west, but we drive, acn come from the east, so that is just added travel for us.
