Hi, so im attending soar next Wednesday and im from the Bay Area (San Francisco Area) and my mom wants to drive down Tuesday night and we need a place to live at San Luis Obispo for the night. What hotels or motels are there near SLO, preferrable walking distances or short driving distances that you guys would recommend. I looked up some online but i just wanted a much more exact answer on which motels/hotels are closest and cheapest! THANKS

i booked a room at motel 6, its about 9 min drive to cal poly, reserve on online, its cheaper, its like $41/night

I believe there is a holiday in quite close by, but most of the hotels are pretty close.

My son and I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express which is very close. It is a nice place and has a pretty good breakfast spread in the am. It is much pricier than a Motel 6 though. We have stayed in the Travel Lodge which is close and it was far less expensive. The problem is that many places may be full already. Just start checking for available rooms and get one. Also, be sure to book for the Sunday before Move-in (Sept. 12th). That is a really important. Everyone will be staying that night and I have heard that it can be hard to get a room. Book that one as soon as you can as well.
Have fun at SOAR!

Try this: [Los Padres Inn - Hotel Accommodations - Central Coast California - San Luis Obispo](http://www.lospadresinn.com/) It’s right downtown and reasonably priced. I’ve never stayed there, but it looks like it might be worth checking out.

On the nicer but pricier side is Embassy Suites. Some parents want something a little bit nicer when they travel.

^^ True, we usually stay at Quality Suites and will for move-in. However, for SOAR and Parents Weekend we’ll be at the La Cuesta Inn. It doesn’t have the *full *breakfast that the other one has, but it has inside corridors and still serves breakfast. We’ll see how it is. It was less than Quality Suites for these important dates. I know the hotels usually jack up the pricing then.

We booked Embassy Suites ridiculously early and I don’t think they knew it was Soar yet. ($117/nt AAA). I thought it was a glich and was thinking we’d get some rate change. With breakfast for 4 and managers reception, it was a steal. We are staying at Holiday Inn Express for move in for one night then possibly changing location if we decide to stay longer to check out Paso Robles, Montana de Oro, and Morro Bay, then a call to our son to see if he needs anything before heading back to San Diego.

Looking out for some good places at a good price. Anyone ever stay at the Avila Inn and Suites? We loved Avila Beach when we visited this week and this hotel seems to be tucked away from the more expensive resorts.

I meant the Avila Village Inn. Not what I said above
