Hotels near Austin

Hey, I am an prospective admitted student to University of Texas at Austin from New Jersey, I am planning on visiting and taking a tour sometime between April 7-12. Can someone suggest some kind of hotel near the university. Also is it necessary to rent a car while I'm visiting UT? Thanks, All help is appreciated.

Here’s a list of hotels in the Austin area from UT’s website; I believe the mileage indicated is how far the hotel is from the campus, but you might want to check w/each hotel:

I’m not familiar w/Austin enough to recommend a specific hotel. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and it was nice. I would think for some of these hotels you could walk or take a cab to/from campus but I can’t name specifics. Good luck!

When I visited my daughter in the fall, I got the Sheraton in downtown Austin for about $99 on Priceline. Just choose downtown and 3 and a half stars or more. Yu can probably get it even cheaper now since hotels are strugging. If you stay downtown and take a taxi to the campus, you won’t need a car while you’re there.

And I forgot to say congratulations! Austin is quite different from New Jersey, but I bet you’ll like it. My daughter is a student, so let me know if you have other questions. She’s home for break, so I’ll get her insight.
