HOTELS near CMU

I'm trying to book a room for the 18th... Can anyone recommend some places for me along with an approx. price for a 2-bed room?

Also, do the hotels give discounts for students?

Better hurry up, the rooms were filling up fast. There's a CMU discount if you mention it to the hotel.

I'm booked in for the Hampton Inn (less than 2 miles away from CMU.. or 1 mile? i cant remember)..for the 16th (im moving in on the 17th for intel move in day).
It's just has 1 queen bed.. and i think it was $100?
I got booked it quite a while ago.. like, in early June.
Complimentary breakfast included haha

Hi

There is a list of nearby hotels on the CMU website (under "visiting CMU" I think it is). You can also pull up 5000 Forbes Ave Pittsburgh on Yahoo maps and on the left there is a place you can click to show the local hotels. You can then go to their websites, plug in your dates and see what is available and what it costs.

Mathmom is right---you need to do this ASAP---from what I could tell when I got our room (on 7/12), rooms were filling up fast. You may need to get a room a bit further away. Good luck!

Here's a link of nearby hotels that's on the CMU website http://my.cmu.edu/site/admission/menuitem.8a09cea505c192c019300710d4a02008/#inns

I've stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott which is less than 5 minutes from campus. It's very nice. The only bad thing is that they require (and charge) for valet parking ($18 a day?) since they have very limited parking.

The advantage of the nearby hotels is the free shuttle. As HHonors members we stay at their hotels - sometimes rates are better than other times, sometimes the point redemptions are the best way to go; orientation week is a tough one. We've stayed at the Hampton Inn University Place several times and they have a very nice staff; rooms are also OK. But the last time we were there there were drunks partying at 3:00 in the morning - very thin walls. Also they charge for parking. But they do have CMU discounts if you reserve far enough ahead of time. It's already fully booked for 8/18. The nearby hotels are best if you don't have a car.

If you have a car you don't really have to stay so close - traffic is fairly quick other than rush hour and you can get to the campus from downtown in 15 minutes. Often there are some really low rates if nothing is happening downtown sports-wise.

We've also stayed at the Doubletree downtown and got good rates and an upgrade (parked on the street); also the Hampton Inn McKnight Road which was a lot nicer than you'd think from the street (not really that far, low rates, and free parking). Best Rates for 8/18 are $124 for a two double beds. It's most convenient if you're coming from the north. This year we're booked at the brand new Hampton Inn and Suites downtown near the Strip District which also has free parking. So far there's only one review on TripAdvisor (my bible on hotels) but at least it's a good one! Best Rates are $139.00 for two queen beds.

As a reminder it would be a good idea to book for Family Weekend now - you can always cancel but it's your best chance on getting student rates. It's November 2 through November 4.

Just (literally 2 hours ago) flew back from Pgh. after staying at the Sunnyledge on 5th Ave. 2 blocks from campus. It's expensive but totally deluxe so good for the visiting parent no doubt, the parent who wants a very luxurious and quaint place. But pricey.
