Hi - my D just got her audition for FSU’s BM in MT (so excited!), and since it falls during her winter break, we were thinking of going down a few days early and exploring the area (and getting some sun). I have never been to Tallahassee…does anyone have any hotel recommendations for places near campus? How is mass transport down there…will we need to rent a car? Would love advice from anyone who has been. Thanks in advance!

If you are going on an non-event weekend/weekday, then you can go on priceline and put in the area closest to campus with a price of $49 per night. Most everyone I know that does this(including myself) gets the doubletree hotel, close to campus. I’ve stayed here once, and then another time a little further away on Appalachian Parkway, where there are numerous hotels. There are a few others close to campus, higher priced, but don’t get on priceline. We drive there so always have a car as I think you would need one. they have local bus, but not sure about times, stops, etc. definitely not as convenient as car…

You definitely need a car. The public transportation will not afford you the flexibility to really explore the area.
If you want to look at cultural events, the box office has a list of what is going on:

Best wishes,
Michele

Thank you both!

Just so you know, I tried the priceline deal today and it did not work out for us. I imagine this spring break and legislature season is hard for Florida bookings.

It’s the legislature
Try the hotels that are further away from downtown. They might have more availability.
