Hotels near NYU

For move-in day, my mom and I would like to find a hotel near NYU. Can anyone recommend any hotels near the 12th street dorm?

Thanks

We stayed at the Union Square Inn, which was very close to Union Square and my D’s freshmen dorm, Third Avenue North. It’s relatively inexpensive (in New York City terms) but fills up quickly because of the great price, so if you are interested, call soon. It is a walk up “inn,” (no elevators) and quite basic, though neat, clean and efficiently run.

Thanks, actually I just booked the Union Square Inn yesterday. Did you get a cab for move-in day or did you bring everything yourself?

Bri, we rented a van and stuffed everything in it and covered it all with a blanket/tarp and parked it at a garage that the Union Square people directed us to. We then drove the car to Third North the day of move in (we arrived the day before). NYU has it set up so you can pull up to the curb in the block circling the dorm and then park there and unload your stuff (with the help of students) into these giant rolling bins. Once you are finished, then you move your vehicle to let other people have a chance at the spot. It is amazingly organized. I wouldn’t recommend using a cab. Once the stuff we brought from home was moved in, we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and picked up the stuff that my D had ordered and hauled that back to the dorm ourselves on foot. That included a microwave. I wouldn’t recommend doing that! A cab might be in order for the BB and B visit. It’s not horribly far, but it’s far enough when hauling a microwave!

So your daughter did not rent the micro-fridge through NYU? I thought that they prohibited students from bringing their own microwaves.

You definitely can bring your own microwave! My D did too.
