My DD and I will be visiting SLU late in October. I am looking for help in finding a hotel in a safe area that isnt too far away from campus. We will be arriving late in the evening. I have read some reviews on TripAdvisor and some of the close ones seem to be in sketchy areas. One mentioned several car break-ins in the parking lot. We are not familiar at all with the area. Hopefully some of the CC'ers here that are familiar with SLU can recommend a good place to stay for the night. We will have a car so if the best ones are a little bit of a drive that is fine. Thanks.

I found this. My family loves Drury. Drury Forest Park is kinda far away, but the newest. Drury Union Station can be sketchy, but they have good security so no worries. They’re close too. Drury Plaza in downtown STL so its fine though probably more expensive.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy your visit to SLU! I have a freshman there now, who is very happy! He has met many really nice friends and has found lots to do. He is totally enjoying the SLU experience. To answer your question…we have stayed many different places in our visits etc. There is a Courtyard Marriott very nearby (I think less than a mile east?). They offer SLU discounts and is very nice. The area is totally safe too. I’d go with that, or else something directly downtown. The downtown area is very close and has many very nice hotels. If you priceline something, try the “downtown” area. I don’t think you will go wrong.

I hope this helps. Have a great visit!

By the way, this weekend is “Family Weekend” and we will be off to see our son and enjoy the campus…looking forward to it!

Thanks for your replies. Irish I hope you have a great visit.

Irish, please let us know how your visit is on Family Weekend.

Spring, please let us know how your visit is, too.

We’re Marriott Reward members, so anxious to hear about the Courtyard. Is there a SpringHill or Fairfield nearby as well? Husband prefers them, but I don’t care, as long as there’s enough beds for the three of us.

We have many friends interested in SLU, and son has applied as well.

We have a college fair Sunday night, and SLU will be there.

Looking forward to learning more about the college.

^^ my mom and I stayed at a Mariott, I think it was a SpringHill or Fairfield, can’t remember which, in Brentwood a nice suburb about 15 min from SLU. There are closer ones but we stayed cause it was outside the city and WashU was on the way to SLU from here.

We have stayed at both the Courtyard Marriott and the Marriott Residence Inn, both are very close to campus and had great experiences both places. The Drury Inn Forest Park is not far either and they have a great Italian Resturant.

Son is a freshman and is loving SLU!

For a Prospective Students Day visit in fall of 2006, we stayed at the [Union Station Marriott](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g44881-d91069-Reviews-St_Louis_Union_Station_Marriott-Saint_Louis_Missouri.html) when it was still a Hyatt. Great location with the mall and lots of dining choices onsite. We used the MetroLink from the airport, back-and-forth to SLU and into downtown; there’s a stop directly behind the mall. Very easy and convenient and never needed to rent a car.

Thanks, Archie. That sounds great. Is this Metrolink like the Metro in DC? Would be great to use if snow when visit. Not used to driving in snow.

I second the Brentwood district. We visited SLU and WashU St. Louis and stayed in the Brentwood district. Most Hotels near WashU are nice with some four stars available. SLU is in midtown and its not sketchy. There are also some excellent hotels downtown near the ballpark that are 3 and 4 stars, with parking garages.

SLU is a great school and very impressive. Good luck.

Hi all! Family weekend was great! (even if the weather didn’t totally cooperate!) The campus looked fantastic and we had a great time. Our son seems really happy too~which is the best news. He really has met some nice kids~guys and girls who all seem like good well-rounded students. Lots of visitors were on campus~alumni and families etc. The men’s soccer game was a highlight with a great fireworks show at halftime! There is a lot of spirit at SLU, which makes it so nice.

As we left on Sunday night, both my husband and I felt that our son had made a great choice and that he was in a place that truly cares about the students. He already talks about St. Louis as “his city” and SLU as “home”. I can’t say enough~so far, so good!

We ended up staying at the Drury Union Station. Great hotel choice. 5 minutes from campus. We had a great visit and DD is really excited! Yeah!
