Hotels to tour Boston schools

My D and I are touring Harvard at 2 and Tufts at 4 in a couple of weeks. Is there a hotel around that area that could be recommended? And as I"m trying to get my bearings here -- we're visiting BU the next morning...is that vaguely in the area of the other two schools?

Tufts is about 1 hour away from Harvard by car in case you mean that you are planning to attend Harvard at 2pm and Tufts at 4pm. BU is near to Harvard. So I would find a hotel in downtown boston so that you are close to BU in the morning. You can take the T to Tufts. I don;t have a specific hotel for you but try the Courtyard marriott on Exeter Street. Very nice.

thank you Naviance! Now here’s where i get a bit confused…Google Maps says that Tufts is 1.7 miles from Harvard…but is that somehow a branch of Tufts rather than the main university?

I don’t think Tufts and Harvard are that far apart. They are only two T stops apart (although it is a 15 minute walk uphill to Tufts from the T) Still, my son and I did it a few years ago. I agree you can stay down near BU and then take to the T to Harvard and then on to Tufts. I really liked a B and B near BU called The Gryphon House. Huge rooms, walking distance to BU and Kenmore Square. Rooms about $275 (which was a bargain in October, when we were there). The Lenox hotel is nice, but only if you get a good room rate, they really vary. I personally really like staying in Back Bay as my favorite part of Boston. If you want to stay in Cambridge there is the Sheraton Commander.

It’s a bit farther than that. Are you putting in the correct addresses for both schools (for Tufts, Medford, for Harvard, Cambridge)? Plus you have to consider travel time, traffic and parking if you’re driving, waiting for trains and getting to and from stations if you take the T. That schedule will be very tight, if not impossible. Better to visit one school in the morning, the other in the afternoon. You want adequate time to attend the info session and tour and then wander around a bit, try some of the food, etc. Your schedule will have you running around like maniacs.

Harvard says their tour runs about 75 minutes- and tours don’t always start on time. Weather can cause a delay. Extra questions along the way can slow the pace. You may want to linger, depending. Even if you find a taxi immediately after, you’re cutting it mighty close.
