Hotels

My parents and I are driving up to Berkeley for cal day and the night before because I'm in the OHP thing. My parents want to find a fairly cheap hotel that is not too far from cal. where do you guys suggest staying at or the city? My parents were looking up Emeryville...is that nice and not too far from berkeley?

Thanks.

I’ll be staying at Claremont Resort & Spa for Cal Day. The rates were much cheaper than the Cal Day packet suggested.

It says it’s like 200…wow we can totally not afford that hahah

Stay somewhere cheap along the BART routes.

That’s odd - my rate was much much lower than 200. The reservation was made pretty early though. Anyways, did you receive the Cal Day packet? That had a lot of hotels listed with price ranges.

We’re not worried about transportation b/c we will be driving up there. hmmm…

The Oakland Airport area isn’t the best but it has affordable rates ~100-150/night. It’s about 20 min drive from Cal.

If you stay at the Oakland Airport, make sure you stay on the side of the hotel away from the garbage smell. There is a really bad stench near the airport.

hotels.com is nice.

I stayed at holiday inn in emeryville. It was GREAT!!. it was right next to a shopping center. and it’s like about 10 min drive to campus. You could also stay at the executive inns and suites in oakland. They provide free drive to bart. then you can take bart to downtown berkeley.

Both were around 100 or less

we stayed in a holiday inn express in berkeley once. i dont think it was too expensive and it was not too long of a walk to campus.

hmmm yea. lol

My family and I have stayed here twice.

[Executive Inn & Suites near Oakland Airport | A Waterfront Hotel in Oakland](http://www.executiveinnoakland.com/)

It is near the freeway in Oakland, but it’s a nice area right next to the water. Just be sure to get a room not facing the freeway. The hotel is like 15 minutes from Cal by car. Its rates are pretty good, and they offer discounts for Cal students and AAA members.

I personally would never let my family room in a hotel in Berkeley. Every other hotel besides the expensive Claremount is in a ghetto area (around school). Staying in a dingy, downtown area is just gross. The Executive Inn has a good clean and safe environment.

Double Tree at the Berkeley Marina is pretty nice. Looks like prices are about $110 includ. taxes

Yea i statyed at executive inn and suites. it was nice. cheap @ hotels.com

Double Tree at the Marina is pretty nice. It’s quite far from campus walking-wise. A bit over 2 miles. There are plenty of buses down there, though.

The Holiday Inn Express is fine.

Anything closer than 2-3 blocks from campus is likely to be a “pay by the hour” type place. >_>

Second the recommendation to find a hotel outside of Berkeley near a BART line. It’ll be worth the travel time, and the BART station downtown drops you off 2 blocks from West Loop which is about a 10 minute walk from Sproul.

Simply a no brainer.

Hotel Durant

at the North Gate

In terms of Hotel, I heard that there is a Super8 Hotel at Emeryville. But the environment/condition is rather bad. (as my friend calls it “the Compton of SF”)

hotel.com is your friend.
