On average, how many hours of sleep do you get each night?

For me I get about eight hours of sleep every night. There are some kids at my school who claim to get only about five hours of sleep. To me that seems both foolish and unreasonable. No one can study for that many hours each night, and even if you do, I don't see how it can help. You're better off having enough energy the next day than studying at 1 in the morning. What's even scarier is that some kids, who are convinced that they are going to go to some big Ivy League school, walk into school and brag about how little sleep they got.

It's stupid if they brag, but sometimes one has no choice but to sleep late if they have a lot of EC's or a heavy academic load. I agree though, when you don't absolutely have to stay awake, sleeping is the better option. But then again, some people work differently than others, and they can handle the lack of sleep. For me, I always act like I'm drunk and a stupidass in school anyway, so it isn't a big deal to me.

Well, at my school, most kids CAN'T get eight hours of sleep a night. My bus picks me up at around 6 in the morning (thank God an hour later than last year) so I get up pretty early. I don't get home on regular days until around 4 in the afternoon (again, the bus) and that's when there are no ECs going on. When there are (sports, NHS, etc), I'm home even later. I don't "study that many hours each night," nor is all my at-home time just for HW (have chores + other projects I have to get done, sometimes just spend time with my family). I have things I want to do that are not possible with eight hours of sleep (like watching House). Plus, it's pretty much impossible for me to fall asleep before 10:30.

However, I know what you mean about students being stupid and studying for tests for "3 hours," being dead tired when the actual exam comes along and flunking. shrugs Those are just the one-uppers, though.

Ummm... I get about 5-6 hours of sleep a night, and it's not because I'm spending all that time studying. It's called procrastinating and going out every night of the week. I can't go to sleep until after midnight anyway. I've tried to go to bed at 10, and it just doesn't work. I lay there for hours, wasting my time.

Do these people claim to study from the time they get home til the time they go to bed? If they do, then they're lying or insane.

probably 8 on a good night, 6 average, and 5 on a not that great night. I've had my share of 3 hr nights and all-nighters as well.

I usually get home from school around 4 PM, during soccer season, anywhere between 6-8PM. If I sleep @ 12, I'll get 6 hours of sleep--I have to leave at 6:40AM & I'm usually up @ 6AM.

it goes something like this:

4PM-5PM: Snack; relax for a little

5PM-7PM: HW

7PM-8PM: Dinner; shower

8PM-9PM: Procrastinate

9PM-10PM: HW; on a good day-go to sleep

10PM-12AM: Study for tests, etc.; on an average day-go to sleep

12AM-1AM: Finish up studying; work on a project/paper; on a not that great day-go to sleep

Dreading next year though--5APs and 1 Honors. The problem is, besides Physics, I WANT to take all the classes I'm taking, I just don't know if it is possible. Especially because I'm taking 2 history related APs, which require a lot of reading, and Lang, which has the hardest teacher in the school. I don't think it will be possible to do soccer though, and I'll just have to work on lessening procrastination and stuff.

4 on weekdays, 15 on weekends....prolly terrible for me.

though recently i've taken to sleeping until 7pm after i get home from school (i get home at 3pm or so), then going to bed again at 3am, only to wake up at 6am.

I have trouble imagining a WORSE sleep schedule.

I get 6 hours on a bad day, 7 on an average day, and 8 on a good day when I go to bed earlier than I normally do.

It might change next year, though. I'm signed up for all academic classes: Physiology, Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Language, AP Literature, AP Government/Economics, and AP Physics B. x_x I took a year off to study abroad, so this coming year is my year to catch up on work before I graduate.

i get around 5-6 on a good night during the week, then the weekends are a mixxed up amount of sleep. sometimes its 15 hours, sometimes it's none and pass out sunday afternoon

shutup people- just get lives and go to sleep for once...i dont believe 4 hours everynight- what do u do when u get home from school?! and how much work could u really have?!

5.5 hours (but +1 hour becuase my bus ride is really long!)

bus picks me up at 7am and i wake up at 6.30 because I shower at night, not in the mornings.

school ends at 3:05.

3:15 - 4:15 <-- club/ec meetings
4:15 - 6:15 <-- sports practice
bus ride is long... i get home at 7pm
eat dinner till 8 (haha i love talking to my family.)

and then i start on homework... finish at 12midnight usually... and then i give myself 1 hour of "free time".

6ish on weekdays. and i really dont care if the OP finds it annoying for people to get less sleep than them. does it affect you? i dont think so. most people dont enjoy being sleep deprived, but with extracurricular activities, parttime jobs, sports, homework, papers, studying, eating, and possibly trying to fit in socializing, that takes up a lot of hours in the day, no? jeez people bug me.

I sleep usually around at 12:30 and on a test night...1. The latest I've ever slept is at 2:30 in the morning. Because I have first period off (thankfully), I normally have about 7 hours of sleep. However I'm one of the fewer upperclassmen in my school who actually has this much sleep. I know plenty of people who go to sleep at around 1-3 and wake up at 6 or 7.

smcnair21, you said, "shutup people- just get lives and go to sleep for once...i dont believe 4 hours everynight- what do u do when u get home from school?! and how much work could u really have?!"

When I get home from school, I "have a life", which you claim I should go and get. I have 12 days left of high school, so I have no homework anymore. I get home from school at 3 pm everyday. I then go to work, which is at least an hour commute each way. When I get home, I change and then go out with friends, every single night (geez... sounds like I have more of a life than you right about now). When I get home, which is usually about 1 am, then I go to sleep.

By the way, I've found that the more of a life you have, the less sleep you get. I've never met anyone who claimed that they had gotten a life and therefore gotten a lot more sleep.

Just because people have different habits than you doesn't mean you should tell them to shut up.
