how many hours of sleep do you need to do well in school? Is 5 enough?

Most teenagers need 9 hours a night. But most of us get by on 7 or 8.

Really depends on the person. Although, 5 continually probably won't be good. You'll be irritable and grouchy and you'll lose concentration easily. 8 is recommended, but I know that you can get away with 6 or 7, as long as you sleep well on weekends.

I'll try to get 6 a night then. So it's alright to catch up on sleep during the weekend?

I like to get 8+, but I can get 7 and pull through. Sleeping well on weekends is key.

Anything less than 7 and i fall asleep when i get home from school.

suppose to have....8+ hrs.

overachievers really get......6 hrs. (if lucky)

First week of school was tough. In the past three days I've slept like 10 hours! I'm so tired!

I'm going to try to get at least six a night

I need about 8 hours of sleep to do well in school, but I have been slipping by with 7 hours.

I need a lot! I basically crash with anything less than 7 a night (not including napping) but I do a lot of sports so when im not at school or practice I'm probably sleeping. Yea I know I sound like a slacker.

Three to five on school nights. About 14 on weekends. :D

Is 5 enough?

Technically speaking, five is not enough at all, however many Highschool students procrastinate and contradict their bedtimes....

you should aim to get at least 8 per night on a regular basis, but getting between 5-7 is ok if it happens no more than once a week. if you need to sacrifice sleep to do homework and all your ec's, you will do them much slower with much less quality if you don't have that 8 hours. if you get more sleep, it will take less time to get other things done, plus your concentration sky-rockets, you can remember more of what you learn, and your athletic skills will increase, and overall you will have a better lifestyle.

and sleeping very little during the week then "catching up" on the weekends is not good either. if you do that, your mental clock gets all messed up, and it becomes even more impossible to get a good sleep schedule during the school week. set a constant time for you to go to bed and wake up, and never stray over an hour from that time. you can't make up for those hours you missed by sleeping extra on the weekend because you can't recover missed hours of sleep.

sleep is NOT a luxury. it is a necessity.

Teenagers are supposed to get around 9, but 8 is fine. 5-7 is okay if it's not on a regular basis.

Alright, thanks everyone! :)

I get 9 hours of sleep, biatch.

...and I'm doing 5 AP classes. :D

Sleep is over rated once you get of school.

I rarely get over 3 hours of sleep per day(insomnia) and feel fine.

The amount of sleep you "need" is how much your brain "thinks" you need.

Learning to master your mind is key to surviving on little sleep.

During the school year I get an average of 5 hours. Sometimes less, very rarely more.

I sleep a ton on weekends though.

I get about 5-6 hrs. on weekends I try to get more, but sometimes not always possible because I usually have sport practices to go to...
