Hours of work

How many hours of work a week would I need to put in on average for a Comp enng degree?
Apart from class hours that is. Also does it get significantly more during exam time?
Compared to Indian engineering is the amount of effort and time more?

Thank You,

For CmpE, you really have to put in enormous hours. Around 40 hours per week at least. A project for 1 course alone could be 40 hours per week.

I’m a rising Sophomore CompE. I’m not going to say that CompE is an easy major or anything but at least the intro courses are relatively easy. My first semester I only did about an hour of work outside class a week. Second semester I think I averaged around 5 hours of work outside class a week. I think that the 40 hours a week starts once you reach some of the upper level courses.

1hr a week? That seems um very low or did you mean a day? Upper level courses start when junior year or sophomore year?

The amount of work seems relatively lower compared to an indian degree. 40 hours a week from first semester and close to the exam like 50 !!

I meant a week lol. My 1st semester was kinda a joke. When the hard courses start really depends on your school and whether or not you come in with ap credits or not

NO AP credits at all.

i am aiming for UIUC
maybe CMU

Rule of thumb is 1-3 hours outside the class for every hour in the class. Of course this varies by student, instructor and subject.
