Hours per night studying

I'm wondering how many hours per night a typical Cal student studies. I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't feel like searching. My schedule so far is Econ 100a math 54 and stat 21. I am budgeting for 3-4 hours a night. Is that not enough? At CC I spent about 2 hours every other night and that was enough for studying and home work.

Well, it depends on how efficiently you study. 2-3 hours should be plenty if you actually concentrate and study without getting distracted. Most people I’ve studied together with though do about 1 hour of concentrated study for every 5 hours “spent studying” ;)

Really depends on the type of learning you are.

From my personal experience, myself included; nobody studies until there is a midterm or final, then they just go all out.

^ And how does that usually work out (grade)?

Depends on how intelligent you are compared to everyone else I suppose. People who hardly study but know their stuff/are pro crammers can bang out an A, while others can’t.

The expectation is that you spend 3hr/wk for every unit you take. This includes class time, homework, projects, and study.

So, for a typical 15-unit schedule, you can expect to spend 30hr/wk studying. That roughly works out to ~4hr/day.

To be honest, most people don’t really have a set study schedule… Most just cram when there are midterms/finals. I’d say spending time doing your homework daily is much more accurate. It’s good if you can review your stuff each night, but it seems impossible with all the distractions. If you can do it, kudos for you :)! Doesn’t hurt to try setting out a studying schedule.
