So I calculated the #hours/wk for my extracurriculars, and I got this:

Debate - 15 hrs/wk
Science Olympiad - 8 hr/wk
Assorted community service/other minor clubs - ~5-6 hr/wk

They look a little high, but debating on the national circuit takes up a lot of time (w/researching, traveling to out-of-state tournaments on weekends, etc.) as I'm sure any debater knows...

But do you think those numbers seem reasonable?

That comes out to 4 hours a day total which does seem a little high, unless you do a lot on weekends. Assuming the same time every day, school dismissal at 3 PM and 1 hr general inefficiency and transit time, you would get home at 8:00 every day. (4.07 hours of EC’s.) Do you?

If you spend the full weekend on debate stuff, it would be much more reasonable. Now that I think about it, I’m listing almost as much time as you. (10 hours in the lab, 5 hours fencing, 4 hours volunteering, 1.5 hours JSA. Okay, not as crazy, only 2.93 hours/day for me.)

I think that it sounds reasonable. Many EC’s have the majority to their hours on the weekends. For instance, our band time comes to 23 hours/week for 13 weeks in the fall. Show Choir comes to 8 hours a week over 29 weeks; however, much of that show choir time commitment falls after marching band season is over, although there is a little overlap (and the CA does not give enough room to explain this all!). Those are my two big ones, but I have several others (Volunteer Club, Natl Honor Society, Calculus Club, Bible Study) which are 1 -1.5 hours/week. So I think that yours sounds very reasonable.
