<p>most freshmen i knew did not take over 16hrs, but this all depends on what courses you are taking. but generally, 16hrs.</p>
<p>The key is that you have to get special permission to take more than 20. Torturous as it sounds, many music majors take 21-23 credit hours! You'll probably be fine taking 17 hours your first semester (4 classes plus FAME). FAME really adds nothing but an hour a week from late August to mid-October (so you're done with it halfway through the semester anyway).</p>
