Housing Advice

I apply for housing today where my selections were as follow below. I choose the Cypress Hall Suites A for my first choice and Cypress Hall Suites B for my second choice. What is the difference between these two suites? Did I make a good choice? The others options I had were follow below. Juniper and Poplar was not available which I heard were the best.

Iota Hall
Zeta Hall
Cypress Hall
Maple Hall

Cypress Apartments
Holy Apartments
Kosove Apartments

I haven’t lived in these mind you but from feedback. Iota and Zeta are apart of the Astros complex. Which from what i’ve read “Not the nicest on campus but the best sense of community” All the dorms are atleast tolerable. With the exception of 2 (reserved for first years) all of the dorms have suite bathrooms as opposed to community ones. All cleaned weekly.

I applied with Cypress as my first choice. Maple hall is nice, the only one I have heard to stay away from is Castor. Juniper and Poplar fill up fast, mainly because they are mostly filled with first year freshman. J/P are also separate from the rest of the housing. The housing is mostly located in the back end of campus. Apartments are all nice from what ive heard also, but more pricey.

Good for you for choosing to live on campus. I was skeptical about it, till one of the housing people told me/explained how yes you could find something a little cheaper off campus but living on campus is a big write off on convenience and expenses in the long run.

There are a number of decent, safe, conveniently located private apartment complexes across street from USF campus that charge as little as $500/month including utilities. Students can walk to classes or take Bull Runner shuttle bus that stops right in front of the apartment complexes. Campus housing is nice and convenient, but there are private housing options too near USF campus.

I end up choosing Iota Hall as my first choice due to it have its own single room and you don’t have to share with anybody. My second choice is Cypress Hall as a backup. The prices are reasonable for all utilities, cable, internet, etc. included. It cost more in the long run living off campus where I have many years of experience. I would like to meet new people, attend campus activities, and focus on my studies. I appreciate the advice above.

How long does it take to get a room assignment?

For me it was around 4 months because they started room assignments around late May this year and I applied in late January. You’ll get an assignment soon though.

Yes, I got all my necessary paperwork in back in late May. I emailed asking (making sure I didn’t somehow get lost in the scuffle) a few weeks ago and they said they have not done a mass assignments again, but will soon.
