I recently accepted my offer of admission for the class of 2021 and am eagerly awaiting the start of the new academic year. As I was browsing through the Important Deadlines page for admitted students, I noticed that it said the Housing & Advising Questionnaire would be available on May 1. Seeing that it is now May 2, and I still have not received it, I am slightly worried. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the questionnaire? For other admits, did you receive an email or anything?
The housing deadline is May 26th, so there’s plenty of time to fill it out and submit it. Harvard will post the questionnaire on the Admissions Applicant Status Portal, or on the Admitted Student Website, so keep checking. It probably will be posted within the week: https://fdo.fas.harvard.edu/pages/deadlines
FWIW: Harvard tries to match students with similar interests, asking questions about alcohol consumption, getting up early, going to bed late, how clean or messy you keep your room, what kind of music you like to listen to, etc. Often times though, students fill out these surveys with their parents looking over their shoulder, so the answers a university obtains are not always accurate.
Harvard’s Freshman Dean’s Office has a great sense of humour when placing students together for roommates. For example, there is always a group of freshman placed in the “apostle” group – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Or, the “Beatles” group – John, Paul, George and a kid who likes drumming. Be careful what you ask for, as you may get it. As a joke, my daughter filled out her freshman roommate survey and basically said “I’m looking for a roommate who wears a size 2 dress, a 7 shoe, who has an extensive wardrobe and is willing to share.” She was given exactly that, but it was not a great match!
Did you get it? My DS got an email on Monday with all the May deadlines and links to all the forms. The first deadline is May 10th for pre-orientation trips; housing and advising are due later in the month. I think maybe you have to sign up for your Harvard Key first. I’d call the Freahman Dean’s Office if you still haven’t heard.
@Daykidmom I called the Freshman Dean’s Office and got it all figured out. Thanks for the help!
@gibby Thanks for the info on the actual questionnaire and process! It’s good to know that they really try to pair you up with people who have similar interests… and the whole “Beatles/apostle” roommate idea is hilarious!
Weirdly enough, I got the email, but the link to the questionnaire doesn’t work [it goes to a page that says “Welcome to the Harvard College & GSAS Residential Portal” and has a link to a Privacy Statement(that also doesn’t work) but that’s it]. Is anyone else having this issue?
LOL Never mind it just worked after I tried again
For anyone else having these issues (as I did):
Check your spam! Many students are reporting the email not making it to their inbox.
If the link you go to has an infinite login loop, try on a different browser or different computer. That seems to fix for most people.
Also for similar questions I recommend the admitted students Facebook group, there are pretty extensive discussions on these topics and much faster responses.
