There was some conflicting information in a prior thread regarding whether or not to submit a housing agreement prior to enrolling at UMD. I did so for my oldest, who is now a senior at UMD, based on advice given in this forum. I did the same for my daughter after she received her admission decision in January. Somebody in a recent threat (can’t remember which one) stated that they contacted UMD and they stated that students should not sign up for a student ID and housing before enrolling.
We attended the admitted student open house yesterday and sat in on the session regarding living on campus. The representative from Resident Life (sorry, but I can’t remember his name) spent over 5 minutes speaking on this very topic. He said that if you think that there is even just a chance that you might attend UMD, you should submit your housing agreement NOW. He said that there is no fee due when you submit the housing agreement and that you do not need to enroll prior to submitting the agreement. Housing is assigned based on when you submit that agreement, so the sooner the better. The longer you wait, the more likely it is that you will end up in a flex triple (meaning a regular double room that needs to be turned into a triple to accommodate all freshman who need housing). He said that if you sign up for housing today, your odds of getting stuck in a triple are much less than if you wait until mid-April or later. How late is too late really depends upon how many students who need housing accept their admissions invitations. He made it very clear that if there is any chance that you will attend UMD and will need housing that you should submit the housing agreement immediately.
If you are unfamiliar with the process, you need to log into the Coalition app and view your decision letter. Within the letter is a link to “next steps” or something like that. If you click on that, it will take you to the website where you will find a list of things that you will need to do to enroll in the university. If you’re not ready to enroll yet, go down to the steps for acquiring your university ID and submitting your housing agreement.
