Housing and Dining Agreement

My son is completing the Housing and Dining Agreement. We are confused however as he is not 100% certain UMD is where he is going - thinks he might, but wants to wait and see other schoools’ offers. While completing the online form it states that you agree to: “accept and pay for a room assignment in a residence hall if confirmed for housing.” Should he wait to complete this then until he had made a firm decision?

@davenmame - I believe that as long as you notify UMD that you will not be attending, within some reasonable time, there wont be any problem. Actual housing assignments do not come out until July. You can probably call or email ResLife about this.

@Davenmame - We are in the same situation. We are doing our admitted student visits in March so wanted to be sure not to get caught in supplemental housing at some of the universities we are revisiting. I read the the actual housing agreement (for the 2014-2015 year as the 2015-2016 agreement isn’t up yet) and it looks like as long as we notify the school by 7/1 of intent to withdraw housing application we are in good shape. Here is a link to what I read:

I thought I would check with UMD on Monday to be sure this will be the case for the upcoming year.

My son called today and they confirmed what you said. He’ll need to call right away if he ends up not going, but right now he seems very interested.

Thanks for the confirmation. We aren’t doing our re-visits to schools until March so I need to decipher from my son which are his top choices for housing application purposes…easier said than done! Best of luck to your son!

Always encourage students to fill it out as soon as possible (and definitely before May 1st). Housing is on a first come first served priority, meaning those who are last to fill out the form may be placed into triples if there aren’t any more doubles available. As long as you reach out to the school letting them know you are not attending, you will not be responsible for the housing if the student decides not to attend.
