My d is going 7/24 for nursing.

Anyone else going for engineering on the 24th and 25th?

Still no notification on roommates? I'm surprised they wait so long through the summer.

i got my roommate and housing information about three days ago... but i live very close to campus.. about 25 mins away...

some ppl do have it, in fact my roomate already contacted me

I hope my daughter's comes soon. . . we live about 100 miles away, and her PItt start is Monday/Tuesday. It would be nice to be able to go check out her room while she's there.

Myself, I'm up for tours of the Nationality Rooms, and eating in Oakland!

The Nationality Rooms are really interesting! If you have time, you may also enjoy the Carnegie Museum and Scaife Art Gallery. For a short walk just beyond Hillman Library, you can also visit Phipps Conservatory. :)

I agree. The Carnegie museum costs money for everyone during the summer, but its free during school time for students....it is really interesting...u should walk around the campus, and try to get to know where things are, it might help.
ps. when you go ont he pathfinder tour, and go to the William Pitt Union, you should go to the 7th floor and say hi to me! i'm working there :-) haha

I think they gave us free passes for the museums during PittStart!

We've heard that the museums are mostly closed on Monday. We'll be there Monday and Tuesday. . . :(

Well, maybe you could go to the Carnegie Museum on Tuesday and see Phipps Conservatory on Monday. Phipps has a really interesting butterfly room where hundreds of butterflies are free and in various stages of development. Definitely worth a visit! :)

We did Pittstart in June and they did give us some coupons to either see museums free or at lower cost. There was also a walking tour with Pathfinders to Phipps I think, but we didn't take it (for the parents while freshmen are doing their thing). Also for the parents, on the night the kids are staying in the dorm (if they chose that option) there is a charter bus that picks up the parents at the Alumni Hall (?) next to the Holiday Inn and takes you to the area by the river where there are shops, restaurants, and one of the incline railways. They pick you up at 6pm and return you at 10pm. A nice way to see some of the city w/o getting lost.

We had dinner one night at a Mediterranean restaurant on S. Craig St. that was really good. There seemed to be a lot of nice places to eat on that street.

No word here on the roommate yet. D was accepted for honors housing so we've known she's in Tower B, but no letter or email on the roomie. Looks like it's on the way though.

Also, I think the Nationality Rooms close at 3pm. They are mostly all locked and there's a place on the first floor where they give you a key and then you go through them and return the key when you're done. We waited too long doing other stuff and then missed the last key 'cause we didn't know better. However, whilst wandering around we managed to see the Japanese room with someone who was finishing up and it really neat to hear this taped explanation of how it was built in Japan, disassembled and rebuilt in the Cathedral, and what all the different aspects of the room stood for, etc. We'll try to do the rooms again maybe in August.

I wonder if that bus takes people to Station Square? Sounds like that area.

I think my daughter may be in Tower B. She requested the "quiet" housing area.

Thanks for the info about the Nationality Rooms!

Has anyone else not recieved their housing info/roommate info yet?

I haven't recieved my notification yet either. I contacted housing about 5 minutes ago and the woman told me that they have recieved a lot of calls about people not recieving information. They said to give them a day to resend out the information. You might want to call Panther Central to see if they can do the same for you.

Yea I did she said that they would be in the mail any day. I sure hope this isn't due to any missing forms. Any fellow engineers here (me=mechanical)

chrisd- from oakland, there is no bus that goes straight to station square. what you have to do is take pretty much any bus that goes to downtown (which is like all of them almost), get off at wood street, and take the T to station square. Station square is amazing. Lots of restaurants, you can take the incline, its a really great time. I would recommend going there during the evening.

Neelesh - The bus to Station Square that I referred to was a charter bus that Pitt arranged to take a large group of parents downtown together. Some Pathfinders rode the bus with the parents and everyone met at the Alumni Hall at 6pm to board the bus. It was a special deal for the parents at Pittstart and not something the city bus system does.

Thanks for you general bus info though; I may not have been too clear when I posted. You have been very helpful in your postings.

As for roomate info, we still have not received anything and we are also engineering. I'll call Panther Central and see if they have us down for a resend.

My daughter found out her room assignment and roommate from Panther Central while at Pitt Start. . . and the large envelope w/ all that info was here when we came home! She wanted to be in the towers, and she's in tower A, 16th floor.

I hope they finish up the construction around the towers before 3000 freshman arrive next month!
