I was going to fill out my housing application today, but the person I will be rooming with could not access the application as of yet, beacuse he only enrolled a few days ago. That being said, what is on the application? Does the application ask for the name or Social Security # of the person who I want to request as a roommate? How does it work? How will Rutgers know that I want to room with this specific person?

have you checked the application or email the uni? Some housing apps will say if you want a specific person etc.

No, I have not seen the actual application because right before I go to access it, it says that once I start it, I have to finish it, or else I can't go back to it. Therefore I will wait for my future roommate to have access to his app, and then we will do it together. So just for my knowledge, do the majority of housing applications have the option of requesting a friend as a roommate? Please help.

i know with UF when you fill your housing application, it will ask you your preferences. IF you more concerned about getting a certain roommate, obviously you'll put that as the your 1st preference. then you have list the name of the person and their ID number, the school knows that you want to room together if BOTH students put each others name. I wouldnt think that other schools are too different from that.

i think most schools require that you request each other (with both name and student ID number) and make sure that your preferences (for building type or for specific buildings, whichever the school allows you to rank) match as well.

k thanks!!!

no problem! although this MAY not be true for Rutgers, i believe it to be the standard procedure.....so good luck!

another plus when it comes to having a specific roommate selected is that it's more likely that you'll get your first choice, since one of your lottery numbers is bound to be at least decent....that is, if your school uses the lottery system, which i think is pretty standard.
