housing application through living at cal

can we start the application process already? i cant seem to find where to start through the site.

Have you submitted your SIR yet? They won't let you apply unless you've done that. The deadline to apply is May 3rd. The link is:

Living at Cal - Fall Freshmen

I think you have to set up your Berkeley email account to get the little button that you can click on, after you submit your SIR thru your email.

It was kinda weird like that when I applied for continuing student housing. Check also your checklist of things to do, which should be on your myberkeleyapp page.

If you want to know when they start accepting applications, just call the housing office and they'll walk you thru it. It doesn't really matter if you apply early or on the last day -- it goes into a lottery and it's kinda the luck of the draw for housing, unless you're in the disabilities program, in which case it's taken outside the lottery.

So no worries, but DO get it in BEFORE the deadline or you're screwed.

I am pretty sure it is not open yet. Don't worry about getting your application early; it is based on a lottery, not first-come/first serve.

i submitted my sir within 30 mins of finding out about my acceptance :] im actually a spring '09 admit so i am kinda worried about the whole housing situation since im going to be doing fpf. thanks for the help though!

There seems to be quite a bit of spring admits this year.
And don't fall into idea that you are inferior in anyway to fall admits. Actually, the average spring admit i know has been smarter than the average fall admit.

i am actually very excited about being admitted.. i dont care if im a fall or spring admit.. im a bear :] ! but i really do want to dorm during fall while im in fpf.

Does anyone know if freshman can request their roomates? Or are they just picked at random?

i think we can request.

You can request, but they have to request you too. If not, you won't get your friend as a roomie.

Ok, for the OP, I just accepted my contract for fall, and the portal has been updated. I'm going to cut and paste it for you, because you also need to know about the creation of the calnet login, etc and the waiting period.

Cal Undergraduates: Please log in using Calnet by clicking the link at left. Newly-admitted students note: It will take up to three days after you create your CalNet login to be able to log in successfully - don't be discouraged if your login doesn't work right away!

All Other Applicants: Important Note: If this is your first time visiting the housing application portal you will need to self register first to create a User ID and Password. To do so, please Self Register here. If you have already self-registered click here to log in using your new User ID and Password.

2008-09 Academic year applications schedule for undergraduate student housing is as follows:

Fall Freshman admits -- apply between April 3 and May 3, offers sent late May
FPF Freshman (i.e. spring admits in the fall freshman program) -- apply between April 3 and May 3, offers sent mid to late July.

Because other housing books up quickly, and Spring Admits are given whatever's left based on a lottery system, start looking for alternative places NOW, like Westminster House (really close to Unit 1 and closer to the campus) and other options.
