My application status page was FINALLY updated today and it says I can now apply for housing. I am pretty sure I will be accepted (top 3% but out of state) even though I applied for Cockrell Engineering and I know how hard it is to get into, but I still don't know if I will end up actually attending UT. Should I fill out the housing application (and pay the $50 non refundable fee now so I can make sure I can live in the dorms or should I just wait until April when I decide for sure where I will go?

Also, I applied for Honors engineering so I would want to live in honors housing, but what if I put honors dorms as my choices and then don't get accepted to the honors program?

Good questions. My son has the same ones … He applied for Natural Sciences Honors. $50 is not a lot to lose, considering the total cost of UT and what it would cost if you had to live off campus. We are leaning toward applying for housing before year end. Hopefully honors decisions will be released by then.

Actually, the housing app was pretty general for UT. Just asked about shared space or single space, etc. The one for TAMU was much more detailed. Just do it!

I also applied to Dean’s Scholars Honors, accepted to College of Natural Sciences already. I just went ahead and paid the $50 enrollment deposit and $300 advance housing fee (so that I can get the roommate and dorm I prefer) - both are refundable if you fax a letter before May 1.

If you don’t get into honors and you put honors dorms as your first choice, they just move down the list and put you into non-honors dorms.
