When do you get the housing contract? I’ve finished my housing app, paid my fee, got accepted to my major, and had the enrollment deposit waived. If I haven’t gotten it yet, am I out of luck for getting a dorm?

Oh no. It’s still really early and I’m sure you will still get a dorm room. They are probably just sending them out in waves from when the enrollment fee was paid. Check your application status – it may already be on there. My son did not receive an email but some of his friends did. Sure enough, it was posted on his status on bealonghorn, and subject to cancellation if not completed in 7 days. Pretty scary; thank goodness for friends who got the email and told him about it.

Good grief, I just checked my UT stuff today and there’s an email (dated 11/25) about a cancellation notice for the housing contract stating they’d already sent a prior email. What email??? I didn’t the first email. Did anyone get the first email or just the cancellation notice??? And now they want the $300 and the signature by Monday!!! What’s all the rush about? I thought we didn’t have to do this until much later - like in the spring. Why do us early birds have to send in the $300 now or get dumped when those who haven’t even been accepted have until May or whenever? I thought our $50 deposit was to hold our bed?

Decisions, decisions and rush, rush, rush. I just scribbled in random dorms and forget naming a room mate at this time.

I just got back from driving into town to the post office to mail it and thank goodness just did get there before the pick up time. Fingers crossed it gets there by Monday.

omg thats terrible @nunya!!! im sure they didnt do this quick pay stuff last year. where exactly do you go to see this contract??? im worried mine is going to be there to and i just dont know about it.

cocoa - go to your regular email (gmail or yahoo or whatever) and you should have a notice from UT Housing. Mine was titled, “PENDING Cancellation of UT Housing Contr” with the first two sentences, “We emailed you the link to a Long Session 2010-2011 University Residence Hall contract with an offer expiration date of November 30, 2009.
We have not received your signed contract or advance payment.” Yep, that gets one’s attention! Click on the links in the email and it should take you directly to the contract.

Or sign into your EID account and links should be at the bottom of the page that has all the stuff you’ve sent in. At the housing links there is a dorm preference and a room mate questionaire to fill out. There’s also the ResNet contract but it’s not due until August.

You can send your $300 online. However, the contract needs to be signed by you (and a parent if you’re under 18) and snail mailed or hand delivered to their office Monday. I don’t know how snail mail can get yours there on time. Maybe if they have your $$$ and your preferences, they’ll accept a post mark of Monday or call them to make sure.

Good luck!

The email also gives instructions about faxing or scanning the signed contract and emailing it to them. Either of those methods should get the signed contract to them on time. As nunya said, you can pay the $300 online. Here are the instructions from the email:

Skye - Some of the emails might have the fax but the “pending cancellation” one doesn’t. The contract itself only has the snail mail address. The site it links to doesn’t have the fax either. Looks like someone messed up big time and I can only imagine the parent calls next week when people get a chance to look at their accounts after the holidays. Anyway, thanks for posting that info.

nunya - you are right, the instructions I posted came from the original email not the “pending cancellation” one.

Ack, I’m so confused… when exactly does this $300 business come up? I haven’t yet been admitted (but hopefully that’ll happen within the next week or so, since I’m top 10%), but I’ve paid the 50 dollars and such…

So does anyone know for sure if the housing preference is based on the $50 or the $300?

housing priority is based on the $50. the $300 is the enrollment deposit. although I forgot when you have to pay it, your application status check should make the deadline clear and it has nothing to do with housing.

The enrollment deposit is actually the $200. There’s another $300 deposit when you get your housing contract. I was just wondering if they go based on the $300 or the $50 you put down when they look at preferences.

oh my bad, yea i was thinking about the $200. but yes, it’s the $50 that you’ll want to pay early for preferences.

UTHousing’s #18 above says, “The $300 advance payment is due to hold your place.”
