Hi all-
Looking for insight into the housing situation at UK. When do the students have to figure out sophomore year housing? Do any students stay on campus? How difficult is it to find off campus housing--which is basically the same questions as my first question.
Thank you.!

My freshman daughter has already applied for housing for next year. It is our understanding that the stipend for housing does not need to be used for on campus housing. As they are building more new dorms, we hope that there will be enough new dorms for returning students. Some students live in off campus apartments or are a part of Greek life. She has received mail recently from local housing units.

@NaperMom thank you–you said she applied–for on campus housing? We were told if she wanted to she could stay on campus, but do alot of kids do this? It doesn’t sound like there is room for them?..Any other UK advice is appreciated. D is a NMSF so the scholarship may be hard to turn down in the end. Does your daughter like it so far? is she in the honors dorm? thank you!

I don’t really know how many students stay on campus after Freshman year. She put a deposit down and listed her top 5 choices of room type/area of campus. As new housing is being built, more students might want to stay on campus. Some of the older housing would not be a first choice, and is being replaced with newer dorms. I do know that Freshman have priority in housing, but do not know if that is for specific housing or just a guarantee of housing. My daughter is not in the Honors Program. She lives in a 2 bedroom suite, and loves it. She is very happy that she is at UK.
