Housing Assignment: Radisson Hotel

OK, so I don't really know anything about my housing assignment except that I know that I sent mine in pretty late because I was so busy dragging my feet in the decision making process. Anyways, seeing as I sent mine in SO late and got the Radisson, that leaves me to conclude that I got stuck in a pretty bad building with a small community that is OFF campus, and to be honest seems pretty depressing to me! I live twenty minutes away on the freeway and to be honest i'd almost rather live at home than in a crummy hotel...any reasons why I should be GLAD that I got the radisson? Please someone, give me something to smile about here....i feel really effed over!

see my post in the other thread... But no, you got the Radisson not because it's bad, but because the University fills its own residence halls first and uses the Radisson for spillover. Every room not occupied by a student makes them more money, so it's not for quality reasons but for $$$ reasons.

When did you send yours in Chelper? Where did the Radisson fall in your choices?

well...I never lived in the radisson, so I would have the same thought as you about living in a hotel...

But people who live there really do seem to like it. I think the rooms are somewhat bigger than the other dorms on campus. So far, I haven't met anyone who was particularly unhappy with the radisson overall.

There is nothing wrong with the Radisson and I think you're taking this the wrong way. I lived in New last year, but I had friends in the Radisson. They had a lot of fun and almost all of them made good friends with their hall. This obviously doesn't mean you won't have friends outside of the Radisson. It may be off campus...but it's literally a crosswalk away. You're 15 seconds from New/North's side entrance and less than a minute from EVK. Be happy you have your own bathroom, room service, etc.

The only bad thing will be the roommate situation. If it hasn't changed from last year, then you'll be rooming with the person standing next to you in line when you come on move-in day.

I sent in my housing request from like April 28th or something like that...really late : i was really really not expecting to come to SC in the first place - i was dying to go to school back east so goign to SC is exciting and I know i'm lucky to get to go to such a great school but for me its just been kind of a 1-2-3 punch because i was late on parking, too and got the only thing i could at Century SO far away!

and P.S. The radisson wasn't even ON my housing choices... I had parksides suites rooms on my whole list

Wait, I might get the Raddisson even if i didn't list it as a choice? I don't want to live there and I'd like to save the money

I thought you couldn't put down the Radisson as a choice because it's only for overflow housing. That was last year at least.

I know a couple people staying at the Radisson and they love it (friendly people, nice bathrooms, cleaning service etc.)

But wait, if i don't get any of my choices, will i stay at the raddisson and pay an extra grand a semester?

Gosh, I don't get it. My daughter put the Radisson as her first choice. Bigger rooms, private bathrooms, room service, right across the street from New/North's side entrance, clean, etc...If she doesn't get it, I will be stumped. Hopefully, we find out today. She had both Cardinal and Century apts as her 2nd and 3rd choices. Also, I was told the Radisson will now have four floors (versus only two) occupied by freshman this year.

I know a few students who lived in the Radisson last year, and all of them liked it. I can repeat jbusc: I haven't met anyone who was particularly unhappy with the Radisson overall.

The Radisson wasn't a choice last year (it was only overflow), but from what I hear, it is an option now.

The Radi isnt crummy... Its really nice (and the rooms are HUGE). Everyone who lives there loves it! (and there are quite a few floors of students, so it isnt a "small community")

For those of you who did get the Radisson, I confirmed that the beds are XL twin size and not doubles. They took the double beds out. I'm sure that makes the rooms look even larger. They also took out the T.V.'s because they found the students weren't using them. They'd rather bring their own. Also, the refridgerators stayed. :)

I just talked to a rep at USC Housing and she said the Radisson is no longer used for overflow housing- it's its own residence hall this year.

Actually, the Radisson last year had 5 floors occupied by USC students, all freshmen.

I lived at the Radi this past school year, and it's not as bad as you think. I sent in my housing app really late too, and I thought it'd suck because it was more expensive, off campus, etc.etc. But I can tell you that you'll still meet great people, and although you can't get as crazy partying it up at the hotel, you'll still have fun. Room service is a definite plus, as is the fitness center/pool, having your own bathroom, and the size of the room itself is MUCH MUCH bigger than a regular dormroom.

You do have to walk across Figueroa to get to EVK and the library, but it'll take only a minute to walk. And yes, if it's anything like what happened to us, you'll probably be rooming with the person that you're standing next to on move-in day. So try to find someone beforehand that you can put down as your roomie. One way the class of '09 did this was to create a Radisson facebook group and put up their roommate survey answers. Then you can talk to the people who you might want to room with, etc.

If you guys have any questions about the Radisson, just ask :] I loved living there.

Son has the Radisson. He's really happy about it: it seems the pluses are substantial and the minuses are trivial.

I wonder, has anyone set up a "Radisson facebook" this year, per hyerim07's suggestion?

I just searched - and there is :)
