Housing Assignment

I got my housing assignment. I got Pardee Tower!

Anyone else get their housing / are in Pardee?

Pardee is a good place to live. I especially love the bookshelves that come with the rooms. Make sure you get there before your roommate does on move-in day though and choose the side of the room that doesn't have the microfridge ;) Otherwise you wont be able to open the drawers on your desk :)

oh wow really? thanks for the advice :)

wait there's a minifridge? NICE. so a desk, two beds, fridge.. anything else? (and is it only 1 desk?)

For Pardee it's 1 huge desk that goes along the window for both people to share. Yeah, all rooms at USC come with a minifridge/microwave combo.

My son has gotten assigned to Pardee as well; it's his 1st choice. :) His friend who graduated from USC loved living in Pardee & highly recommended it & said if he were to do it all again, he'd choose it as his 1st choice again. The picture of Pardee on the USC website shows a room & it looks much more spacious than the one I had in the eons back when I was in college (at a different school known for smallest dorms).

grrr....i havent gotten my assignment yet. hopefully tomorrow. since i sent mine in the last week, i know i wont get my top choice Birnkrant...hopefully i can get Pardee though, given it was my last choice of the 4 on the sheet. i'm seriously considering getting re-assigned though since after reading up on the options, i felt like i could've made better choices...

^ last week?? ooh;;; my first choice was new/north and i sent it in late march. I think i can get birnkrant though.. hopefully

that is, during the last week we could send them in (and it was received that week as well).

Pardee is a "partay dorm" Good luck with all the pot heads that will be living there.........

I'm in Birnkrant; is anyone else living there?

I am.

Just a question. How effective is the roommate-pairing questionnaire?

Parents of students have told me that if you (& the person you are paired with) are honest, the questionaire can be pretty good & helpful in matching folks well. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who answer as they'd LIKE to be or they'd like their roommate to be instead of honestly & that can lead to more difficulty in adjusting than if folks are more candid.
Parents whose kids answered the questionaire honestly said their kids were pretty well matched with other students & some have kept the same roommates beyond freshman year or at least found housing together (e.g. sharing an apartment) the next year (each getting a roommate of their choice after getting to know more folks at USC freshman year).

Just pay careful attention to the priorities questions. They ask you a lot about your preferences, and then about how much having a roomate who is like you in each of those categories means to you. Really think about that part hard- I ended up with a roomate I had no more in common with than musical tastes. I figured, "I'm open-minded, they don't have to be exactly like me", but I wasn't prepared for someone who distained everything I was into and generally thought she was better than me. If I had to do it all over again, I would have erred towards the side of being extremely picky on my survey just to try and make sure that wouldn't happen.

Yo, another Pardee Tower-er right here!

When I received my admit packet months ago, I thought it was important to turn the Housing App ASAP and didn't research the options well. After the post-app research, Pardee would've been my first choice.

I was assigned to the Cinema Floor on New, which should be great too.....I don't know if I regret it or not. I may not ask for reassingment and stick with it. Don't know......

Why do they ask smoking questions on the roomate questionare if all buildings are smoke-free? Anyone? Just curious

he/she might smoke outside and smell of cigaretts

People who are allergic can smell it on you for ages...

Do have to send in the roommate questionair if you already requested for a roommate?

i'm in fluor
