Housing Assignment

So I just got my housing assignment today, and they got me down for Pelham on the MVC. Can anyone offer a little insight on this dorm? Size? People who live there? Access to DC? Anything would be appreciated...

I found this on the website... hope it helps you.

Are you an upperclassman? I was checking for my incoming freshman son, who's working at a camp this summer, no internet access. He got a double in Thurston... and a roommate who lives 10 minutes away from us!

My son got his housing asignment this a.m. He's in Thurston, Rm 404, a suite for 4. Does anyone know what a Suite for 4 actually looks like?
Thanks!

My son is also in Thurston.... but a double. I remember last year the website showed room layouts... but I can't seem to find that anymore. Does anyone know where that can be found?

i actually stayed in room 407 during CI and i think most of the rooms in that row have the same layout.... mine was a HUGE quad, so in terms of size, i think he got a good room! I am in a 4 person suite as well, Room 933 in Thurston... i have NO idea what the ninth floor is like, so hopefully its ok.

I got Cole Hall, which is upperclassmen-only. It was not even on the list of freshman housing options. Did anyone else get an upperclasmen dorm?

Krockett606,
Thanks for the info, assuming the room you stayed in for CI is the same configuration as 404; can you tell me a bit about how it was set up? 2 rooms of 2, common area, one shared bathroom?
Thanks!

anyone know anything else about Pelham?????

any 04's in thurston are the biggest quads you can get, two living rooms, two walk in closets, and a bathroom.

what about the Thurston doubles?

my suite had one verrrry large bedroom in the middle (large enough for beds, desks, and a common area), a smaller bedroom to the left, a spacious walk-in closet to the right, with a pretty small bathroom off of it. anyone know anything about the 9th floor? haha or room 933? (doubtful, i know.)

Does anyone have any information about MV's Somers Hall?? I just planned on being in Foggy Bottom and never visited MV...go figure!! So if there is any personal experiences about the conditions, size, layout, anything...I would appreciate it.

For me, if I had to live on the Vern, I would choose Somers. It's the largest hall on MV and the newest. Unlike FB, you'll find more interaction between the students in the different buildings at MV. MV has a definitely more community feel.

Does anyone have any info on Fulbright? My daughter has a quad there and of course that is the one we didn't visit. Are they big? Is the kitchen a "real" kitchen with an oven? Are kids generally happy there?

Fulbright has a nice near-central location. The kitchens are real with ovens. My friend baked brownie and cake frequently. The biggest concern of residents is the space distribution. It can seem tight.

Fulbright is a lot like Thurston. The main differences are that Fulbright has a "kitchen" the size of a fridge and that some of the Fulbright rooms are carpeted.

Yikes. Thanks for the valuable info.

I was just at GWU for a college visit. They took us into Thurston to see a dorm room. We got to see a 6 person room(s). It had one room with two beds and stuff, a bigger room with four beds and stuff, one bath and a small kitchen room.

I think they were trying to scare us. How does anyone study with five roomates? There will always be somebody who doesn't want to study. They did warn us that Thurston was probably the oldest dorm. So I am guessing that it is a freshman dorm.

My dad said Thurston reminded him of his dorm 30 years ago. Yikes!

My son is a freshman going to live in Thurston, but he is in a double. Just him, a roommate & a bathroom. It was not his first choice of dorm, but since you choose your "house interest" first, the dorm was a 2nd consideration. yes, it is the oldest dorm, but should be a great way to meet people. The doubles, by the way, tend to go to the ED1 applicants. (or so we've been told).

Is Somers at MVC air conditioned??
