I think you only get a single sex floor if your are a female and you request it...but I'm not quite sure. I don't think there is one in Village C tho, but I might be wrong.

The floors are co-ed as well. In New South, they were split so that one end of the hall was male and the other female. In Harbin, you will either get 2 female and 1 male cluster, or vice versa. I think Village C and Darnall work the same way as New South, co-ed on the same floor. The bathrooms are of course single sex, as well as the showers.

When i went to GAAP weekend, they didn't show us a room in Darnall, so are the rooms really small? What's the dorm atmosphere usually like? Like i know New South is considered the party dorm, what about Darnall?

For Village C: last year, the 8th floor in X wing and 6th floor in Y wing were all-girl floors and the 5th floor in X wing as an all-guys floor. Some people requested it, but the majority did not (I don't know of any guys who did, for example).

As far as it being a good dorm, it depends on the surrounding people really. In terms of the nitty gritty, it's not bad but it is the oldest dorm and got a bit cruddy at times, plus some of the stuff would break. Maintenance did a fairly good job of fixing it though when asked, though.

Figures, I'm on the 6th floor, and I DEFINITELY didn't ask for an all girls floor. How do the wings work? are they connected? Looking at the floor plan, there is a big gap between what i'm guessing is the wings.
Also, is there any way we can get our assignment switched?

Darnall is unfortunately probably the worst dorm to be in as a freshman. It is kind of far from ther other freshman dorms relative to each other (nothing is really "far away" from anything on campus). However, it is closer to Reiss and ICC, so thats nice. It doesn't have a reputation of being the quiet dorm like New South. That being said, as long as there are some good people around you, you will have a good time there, which is the same as any dorm here.

Harbin is clustered where you live in a smaller community environment. Each cluster is single sex. Three clusters per floor--either 2 male and 1 female or vice versa. No sinks in the rooms, overlooks the football field.

Well, New South is just awesome, thats about all that you need to know. Long hallways, typical dorm style, coed floors with common rooms, laundry rooms on each floor, bathrooms and showers down the hall. Each room is carpeted and has a sink, everything is brand new...and don't forget, It's the party dorm

umm.... no HARBIN ROX! IT IS AWESOME! YOU'LL LOVE IT! It's much bigger, and cleaner. You make many more friends than just in your cluster. It is very cool. You'll love Harbin. NS has issues, because when ppl get that dorm they feel enormous prode simply becaus ethey got the worse. (k, jk, but I have oodles of dorm pride)

2 chairs per room... actually the New South rooms are slightly bigger than Harbin, sorry hoyadan, New South is better (hows that for dorm pride)

HARBIN ALL THE WAY!
yay dan!
H2 pride!
harbin rocks...new south is cool too....its closer to the cafeteria but a bit further from the main academic buildings...
harbin has a much more central location....closer to the field..closer to the gym....close to icc and reiss and wgr...

dude, im kinda bummed out. i got my rooming assignment and i got darnall. me and my roomate were kinda shocked too, cuz we both had a pretty social leaning profile and kinda see darnall as the more insular dorm life. A question for any non-incoming freshmen, is darnall really that isolated, or is it easy to get into the mix of things?

Yea, I wouldn't worry about it. You'll have fun no matter where you live. Plus, none of the parties are in freshman dorms anyway, so all of you guys are in the same boat when it comes to parties. Just make some upperclassmen friends and you won't have to worry about that at all
