Housing assignments for late waitlisters

My daughter was accepted off the waitlist at UNC and accepted the spot after the 1st deadline for housing deposits. She cannot access the housing assignments link with her id # and is under the impression she will be assigned a dorm in July. Are any of you waitlisters in the same situation?

Is it possible that she would not be able to get campus housing since she accepted so late, and if so, do any of you know anything about Granville Towers? Would this be a better option than being assigned to the "worst dorm" (whatever that means) since she will likely be only given what's left over after the regular lottery system? I would appreciate any honest feedback you could give me. She doesn't know anyone at UNC and will have to go pot luck for a roommate regardless of the scenario. My impression is that she would want to be in campus housing but I would hate to find out she can't get a dorm and then be floundering around at the last minute looking for housing.

I called the housing office today with the same kinds of questions. My daughter was also from the waitlist. They told me that they will be putting together another batch of assignments in the next few days but that all freshmen will eventually get housing. It won't necessarily be the "worst" because as they get an opening, they take the next name, as opposed to going to those who didn't get their best choice. So, if the room that opens up is in X dorm, the next name on the list would get it rather than someone trading up for it. I don't know if that helps any. I get the impression that it would be harder to get to meet as many freshmen at Granville, but maybe others who have done it can say.

If I were you I'd go for regular housing, and if you really hate where you are you can always just go over to Granville. It's a personal decision, really. Some people love Granville, and other people hate it. I don't know many people who are in between. Search through this forum to see what comes up - it's mostly negative, but it is possible to have a good experience there. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for OOS students who don't want to go Greek, though. And the different towers have different reputations. One is work hard, one is play hard, though I can't remember which is which.
