sran, you can't just arrange a switch with somebody.

Back In The Day (TM), you actually could. Not during Orientation (or R/O as it was called back then), but if you wanted to switch dorms, and you could find someone in your target dorm willing to switch with you, Housing would let you do it. They don't allow that anymore...if you want to transfer between dorms, you have to get on the waitlist. I've seen a couple of cases where people do switches illegally, though...

sran, delete some of your private messages.

bsax: done

and darn on the room-switching...oh well, thanks for the info everyone. So I'm guessing my odds on the rd. 2 lottery are not the hottest either?

it really depends on your choices, in the context of the choices of the rest of the entire freshman class. Nobody will know what your odds were until it's too late for the information to be useful to you.

It neither surprises me that this used to be allowed nor that it is no longer so. Back in The Day, you could do a lot of cool stuff.

And sran, you can improve your chances to move into Random if you convince a bunch of people who are temped there that it sucks! :D

Little edit about baker room numbers. -06 rooms are supposed to be triples, but many times get temped as quads. I actually lived in it as a double - best room ever!!! It was absolutely huge (4 beds, 4 closets, 4 desks, 4 chairs, 2 couches, coffee table, "ping pong" table, and plenty of room.

"EC B107- first floor baby!"

i think we have a winner.

;)

YAY that just made me so happy to read i'm going to post twice in a row. You better like the color scheme in that room :)

O rly? pics, please.

If that's where Globber is temped, though, that's not where Globber will end up living, right?

in that particular room? statistical probability says no, but it's possible. on our hall? well, that's partly up to him/her.

i have pictures in my public if you really want to see, but why ruin the surprise? :P

anybody knows the size (length x width) of the bed provided in the dorms? besides my pillow and blanket, what other things should I bring? do they provide a free desk for you? how about a desk light?

All that info's on the orientation/housing sites.

Yes on the desk; there's an overhead fluorescent light that's enough to light the whole room, but if you want a specific desk lamp you'll have to buy one yourself. The bed is a twin XL; not sure what the exact dimensions on those are.

same as a twin except 80 inches long. and yeah. do your research.

xxxzxxx: pillows and sheets are provided, but beds are not, I usually recommend having one shipped once you get to school and just sleeping on the floor for a week or so;
don't forget, you also need to bring your own wires and electrical equipment and stuff like that to set up the overhead lights in your room

MIT does include a desk in the price of tuition, but it is made of cheese and sometimes the rodents dig into it.. the reason is that Gehry wanted his building to appreciate in value and cheese is worth more the longer it molds; but it really doesn't work out that well, so most students just put the included desks in the storage rooms, and build their own desks out of hot glue and old christmas trees

Why not popsicle sticks? That could work...

I'm not sure, but I think it's something along lines that the christmas trees are a better fire hazard.
