Housing Assignments

Around what time in August do we receive our housing assignment?

I called ORL last week and they said the envelopes were being stuffed and would be in the mail this week. I expect something will show up here in the next 2-5 days.

The letter's here!

AH! Slow mail to TX! AH!

haha, i live in dallas, TX, and I got mine in the mail today.

WOO!

You taunt me, xine! xP

Cooooome to Houston by tomorrooooowww!

my son's came in the mail today. he will be in bildner and he has a double. does anyone have any info on bildner?

wbow,

Your son is living in the new housing in the mclaughlin cluster:

http://www.dartmouth.edu/~orl/housing/communities/mclaughlin.html

thank you. new as in this year new? i am curious how a double might be furnished. any ideas?

New as in brand new dorms that are opening this fall. He will be the first to live in that room new :) Is he in a one room or 2 room double (a two room double will mean that while he has a roommate he will most likely have his own room)

The furniture will be the basic stuff, bed, desk night table dresser with
4 drawers

he is in a 2-room double. it looks like both closets are in one room--which is ok if they want a sleeping/living split.

new is nice. at least i am assured it will be clean--for a day or two!

are all the buildings/rooms in mclaughlin new or just bildner?

I'm pretty sure all of McLaughlin is new, as are Fahey and McLane in the Russell Sage cluster.

wbow, my S is in Berry and his 2-room double looks like it also has both closets in the same room. Argh. I'm wondering if it would still be feasible for each boy to have his own room anyway? Like maybe buy an armoire or something? My son asked for a single or a 3-room double because he really wanted his own space (which he said on the application) Considering that he was told that they put kids in singles who didn't want singles, I'm confused as to why they would have done this.

From the looks of the floor plan it looks that it could be one double bedroom and a common space.

It will actually be up to the students how they want to work it out.

Some student may end up using the rooms as designed while others may look at it from a standpoint of "hey there are 2 rooms let's each have our own room" while others may like the concept of having a common room because it limits the traffic through their sleeping space. This also means moving furniture out of the bedroom, placing it in the common space and putting the furniture back at the end of the school year.

Since both of the closets are in the double bed room, it would definitely be something that the roommates would have to work out between them should they decide to live in each of the rooms..

Since students know their roommates this is a topic definitely worth discussing before you get to Hanover.
