Housing assignments!

I got mine today and I didn't even go to FSAP or anything. Looks like I'm in Beaumont Hall. Does anyone know anything about it? I'm guessing that it's traditional since I requested that but I can't tell for sure. Also, does anyone else have their housing assignment yet?

i'm in beaumont too!

Beaumont is similar to 3 other buildings located in the same area on the South 40 next to Sheply Drive. Beaumont was sub-free last year and a few years before that. Sub free meaning no alchohol, drugs, etc etc not that freshmans are suppose to have them anyways. Anyways it just means the atmosphere is more of the clean fun and the kids are usually more academic driven or just not interested in getting drunk or drugged or they want to have a quieter place to come back to to sleep and study. Beaumont has hallways that are rather narrow and the layout takes a little getting use to cause its sorta maze like. There is community boy bathroom and one community girl bathroom. The bathrooms have 4 shower stalls that have curtains for privacy. 2 shower stalls are seperated from the other two shower stalls by four toilet stalls (all stalls are the same wall). For guys there are no urinals. Across from the stalls are 6 sinks and 2 big mirrors. The rooms in Beaumont vary in size (some doubles are larger than others by a little). The are 4 singles and they are very small. you can basically take 3-4 steps into the oom hit a wall take one step to the right or left and hit another wall. Since there is a bed desk and closet taking up room in the single its basically a jail cell (actually a little bit smaller) Singles are seperated and in each corner of Beaumont. Beaumont consists mainly of doubles which are a little larger than two singles put together and are generally comfortable. Triples are the largest rooms, but people tend to like doubles better. Anyways rooms in Beaumont follow this suit - 1 wooden table per person, 1 wooden chair per person, 1 bedframe+matress per person, 1 medicine cabinet/mirror per person, 2 long flourescent lights which are in my opinion a bit dim, the floors are grey tan speckled tile, the walls are covered in a plasticy feeling white. There are 4 or 5 wooden vertical bars that people like to use to put picture son and stuff, but they are painted white and the rules say no holes in the wall and Im assuming the same thig for the wooden bars, but holes are fixable with white putty and sandpaper. The airconditioning unit it one of those old ones based on water cooling (basically it pumps cooled water through pipes in the unit and collects heat and a fan releases the cold air. A problem last year was the air conditioning unit broke down a few times not to mention electrical outages, but they are generally fixed quickly. Traditional really means old so dont expect hotel quality (which the new dorms do actually feel like hotels). Meaning Beaumont's stairs are cracked, the ceilings if you put tape on it and rip it off the cieling paint comes right off and underneath is some kind of yellow fiberous stuff. The walls are rather eck cause noone cleans them, but I tried and I used an alcohol swab and wiped it and on the first wipe the swab turned dark yellow black ahahah and left a bright white line on the wall. The housekeeping clean the bathrooms everyday on the weekdays but not on the weekends.

All in all people really like living in Beaumont because its far more social. People's doors are almost always open, even at 4 in the morning ( singles however tend to lock their doors) and people are in the hallways talking and having fun. With the narrow hallways open doors, people run into each other more and so they get to know each other more. Beau 3 has a reputation of being a very tight community. They also seem to house the smart kids ahaha cause they had top GPA overall of all the floors last year. The new dorms are really mor elike hotels than anything, but they find ways to have their fun, just not as a floor community. Beau 3 also won the South 40 olympics last year and the year before that.

Thats about it, unless you have more queastions
Pardon my grammar and spelling lol.

Good Luck

Wow, thanks for all the great information. Also, do you know about how many people there are per floor? Thanks again.

gl7
That was great info on Beaumont. Do you any on Danforth? Thanks.

I lived in Beaumont 1 last year and had a blast. While it was confusing at first, our halls gave the building character. You'll meet a lot of great people and have a lot of fun!

P.S. Beau 3 didn't win the ResCollege Olympics...Lee/Beaumont did. I was a proud repreentative in the championship tug-o-war team...lol

does anyone know anything about Lee?

I'm in FSAP and am at Wash U right now, trust me, Danforth is amazing. New, Modern, best laundry facilities, nice rooms. Danforth would be absolutely perfect if it were only closer to Bears Den(Wohl Center) and the main campus. Otherwise, it's perfect.

I'm in Beaumont too! :)

Anyone know much about Lien? I know it's a newer building, but that's it.

can some1 please rate the dorms?

I have a single in Umrath... any opinions/comments?!

Dang, I wanted Beaumont but looks like I'll be in Danforth.

i'm in Lien. :(

Yea beau3!! Beaumont pride! :D

Lien... yeah it's a new dorm, 3(?) floors... most (i think) of the rooms are doubles that have a semi-private bathroom (2 rooms are connedted by a bathroom that they share). It's right above Ursa's, and there are lots of meeting rooms in Lien too. There's a lounge on the first floor (maybe the others too?).

Lee is similar to Beaumont, b/c its another old dorm. Its mostly doubles, and there are a few random doubles on the ground floor kinda separated from eachother. It's got community bathrooms too, but I don't remember how many or the size. There's laundry in the basement, along with the Beau/Lee computer lab. I think I remember the hallways being kinda curvy too, and a small lounge on each floor?

Hope that helps, and hope I remember correctly!

sorry to be repetitive... but......

can some1 please rate the dorms?

I have a single in Umrath... any opinions/comments?!

sweet. :) a new dorm! :) that would be cool. That means I got the modern double i wanted

Rating the dorms is hard because it depends on what you like yah know?

Traditional dorms like Umrath, Beau, Ruby, Lien are generally more community friendly and they have floor fun, but laundry sucks in Beau lol I remember that because the laundry sucked - sucked. They were old most broke down every once in a while and everyone seems to do laundry when you want to unless your doing it at like 3 in the morning because yes people actually do laundry at 3 in the morning. LoL Lee has better Laundry facilities.

New Dorms - Very Hotel like, weide open halls and doors are almost always closed. But they have really nice rooms, bathrooms, etc. They also have much better study rooms. But they arent very community based.

Singles in Trad dorms are small - very small - dont think about hanging out in a single because you can barely move. If one person sleeps on the bed and the other person sleeps on the floor. You basically have no more floor space except for the patc in front of your door. Gives you an idea.

Danforth I hear is actually pretty okay - heard they were pretty rowdy last year on the non sub free floors. Ahha I just remembered that Lee 3 I think last year was in the Student Life newspaper because they were nuts. I dont remeber exactly but i think some kids did something horrible to the RA's room. Anyways Dont worry about where you live really, in the end youll find people youll like. UNless you wanted a sub free floor but got stuck with non sub free or if yor pre med ahahahah jpjpjp. Anyways Good Luck Dont Worry The Dorms are all good.

Just to clarify the above post...Lee is an old dorm...Lien is a new dorm.

oh... so if i'm in lien, that means i'm in modern?

Yeah sorry I was typing fast and mixed Lee with Lien - sound the same when your goin fast ahah so yes Lien is modern.
