Housing at Illinois, freshman??

Hey guys, I was recently accepted to UIUC and I'm going crazy trying to decide what type of housing to pick. I'll be an engineering student there in the fall; ultimately I'd like a dorm that has a good social atmosphere but where I can actually get some work done. So this is kinda what I've read online about each of the dorms so far; can you guys comment/expand/argue any of these; are they accurate to your knowledge?

Certified Private Housing- has nicer facilities, but the people are less social and the food sucks (especially at bromley?) and you don't get "the freshman experience" (whatever that means)

University Housing-
6Pack- crazy partying, really loud at all times, but good place to meet people
PAR/FAR- too far away from everything, lots of international students, everyone is antisocial (which kinda sucks because I was considering the Women in Engineering living/learning community there)
ISR- really quiet and comfortable, but no one socializes or talks to one another; lots of eng students (I think someone compared it to a graveyard)
Allen/LAR- I didn't really see much info on them

I guess I'm asking, is there an in between dorm where theres not partying 7 nights a week, where it's quiet enough to study but I can still meet people and socialize? Am I the only engineering student who actually wants to talk to people?

If you guys could care your experience or any knowledge you have, I'd reallyy appreciate it! Thank you :)

In the same place. I’m doing engineering but I don’t want to live in a completely dead and anti-social dorm. I’ll probably end up going with the 6 pack.

You can apply for a learning community within the six pack. You will get some extra perks but get in the six pack as well.

Does anyone know if its hard to get into the six pack??

I actually heard a lot of freshman end up in 6pack over any other dorms; I guess thats just where they end up putting freshman

I’m in the same situation… I really don’t want to end up in 6pack because I’m not a party girl. I’ve been looking at the lofts at the Europa House and they seem really nice, especially for such a great price. I don’t understand why people aren’t considering them as an option.

Hi there!

I’m Joe, the Office Manager at Hendrick House at the corner of Lincoln & Green Street in Urbana. That means we’re just a five minute walk from the Engineering Quad. Our Private Certified Facility is actually really great for engineering students, math majors, computer science majors, and, really, anyone who wants a quiet, studious place to study!

As for the concern that no one in Private Certified Housing has any good food, I can say that Hendrick House serves fantastic food. We would even invite any of you to stop by for a tour and try it yourself for free! Our skilled staff works with local farmers to get fresh, organic, local ingredients and prepare them fresh for you.

We feature single and double rooms and a really great community where our students are able to focus on their academic work, while still getting out of their rooms to have some fun. Our active RA staff and great student government plan events to make Hendrick House the place to be!

If you have any questions, you can feel free to contact me on these forums, or feel free to contact me directly at office[at]hendrickhouse.com.
