Housing at IU

Hi,

I am an international student moving to Bloomington for Spring 2017 semester to attend a graduate program at IU. The university has already offered few on-campus apartments. Though I couldn’t find any review about them except one for Evermann and Redbudd that was written on 2010. Does anyone have any recent experience with any of the following apartments?

BBHN
Campus View
Evermann
Redbud Hill
Tulip Tree
3rd & Union
University East

Thank you in advance

Sorry, don’t know anything about the ones listed. I’ve seen the 3rd and Union from the outside. I had a friend who’s daughter lived in them and really liked them. I would suggest you may try a search on YouTube to see if there are any video’s out there.

Might help if you posted a bit more about what your questions are. Are you more concerned about location? Age of housing? etc.

I am mostly concerned about cockroaches  I read somewhere that Evermann apartments are very old and full of cockroaches. Is it old and dirty or it’s just old?

Sorry, can’t help you with that question however, even a new building could have cockroaches. Since my D is undergrad most of what I’ve seen have been the dorms she would be living in. I have driven by some of the others on your list and the ones more Northeast of the campus do seem like they are older. Again, only have seen them from the outside so can’t speak to the age or how clean they are. Good luck in your research.

3rd and Union is pretty good and decent location. The others, well… You get what you pay for. Location is a bit iffy because you really got to see IUB campus to appreciate some of the locale :). Do you plan to get a car? do you expect a minimum set of, how to put it, amenities, or are you OK with the finest in 1950’s Cold War architecture :).

I met with a neat lady to practice my Spanish at University East. It’s a good place!
Pretty decently sized, a benign atmosphere, a nice lounge-type multipurpose room and a computer lab.
Plus, it’s well-located: you’re maybe a 20 minute walk from the heart of Bloomington at any given moment.

While I can’t claim to have lived there myself, I’ve definitely used it as a starting point for doing stuff around town many a weekend!

University East has a great location esp if you’re a Bio or Music major, and close to things overall. Not quite like Evermann or Tulip Tree which are in the Greater Covington KY area :). What did you think of the apartments themselves, the reviews and RPS pictures are suggestive of the finest Soviet-era architecture compared to some of the more recent (but considerably pricier) places like 3rd and Union or the Cedar Spruce et. al. places…
