Housing at Penn

what are the chances of getting a single in the quad?

i dont remember the housing form specifically, but i think you can request a single. there are plenty of quads in the single; i have a bunch of friends who have singles. theyve got their pros and cons, but i dont think its too difficult to get into one.

"there are plenty of quads in the single"

dang, i want a single!!!! ;)

hahaha i mustve missed that one

I'm with ya Gold Duck. I arrived at the game in the 3rd Q and I honestly thought I was at the wrong game. I looked up at the score and thought I had mistakenly went to Drexel's games...lol!

Oh, we were talking about housing...correct? DO NOT live in any one of the Sansom Place high-rises. I live there and it is a rat-hole.

I thought only grad students live there. I lived there 28 yrs ago and it was a rat hole even then.

lol...Well they do, but I am an older undergrad student, so they allow me to live here.

rat-hole? something else lives up there too

something else and more...

hiya!

1.which ones are the highrises?
2.hill sounds fun but it also sounds like people end up living in the library when its hard to concentrate
3. what do you thinkof the following: hill, ware, riepe, harnwell ?
4. what's fisher like?
5. where do most people do their work - room/college house library?

dnm,
1) the high rises are harnwell, harrison, and hamilton...East, South, North
2) if it's hard to concentrate, there are tons of libraries close to hill. a lot of freshmen in hill like studying in groups.
3) most people who live in hill love it, but a few hate it (mostly because they were hoping for the quad). ware and riepe are both very social and you'll definitely have a good "freshmen experience." harnwell is decent if you are interested in apartment-style living but probably not ideal for freshmen.
4) fisher-hassenfeld seems to have a really good sense of community. not too familiar with it...
5) it depends where you live. lots of students work in their rooms, but many prefer the library if their dorms are noisier. i prefer my room at night, but libraries during the day for some reason.

hope this helps.

4) Fisher is fine. It's the biggest of the quad houses, and its nice to have the upper quad courtyard. I wouldn't say anything about a sense of community though. There are sometimes house events, like ice skating and seminars and whatnot, which might be ok, but are mostly lame. Rooms also vary, as there are very old rooms (the ones facing spruce) and very new rooms (i believe Class of 28 was the final house built). btw I live in Fisher.
5) you can study wherever. personally i use my room, but honestly....if i wasn't an idiot i should be going to the library, cuz an hour of studying in Van Pelt = 3 hours in your room. My roommate seems to be able to work and concentrate really well though, and he works all the time, so I suppose it varies from person to person

I just have to have access to a basketball court, lol, does anyone know which dorms have the best access to workout facilities with a basketball court?

Haha, ditto. I'm always amazed at how much work I can get done in a couple hours at Van Pelt (when I finally drag myself there)... one night there equals about half a week in my room.
