a meal plan is included in housing price, yes...

does that mean u can go to cafeteria and eat at anytime and how much u want...? lol just asking

I wish. You are alotted a certain amount of meals/week based on the meal plan you choose. I think the highest one is the 19 meal with rollover.

I dont think anyone has answered, but what would be my chances in getting a dorm (two people) in either de neve/sunset village with a private bath for undergrad?

A few comments:

+Rollover is your friend. I would recommend 14 premier. :)
+Single rooms might get a bit lonely. And this comes from somehow who is nearly obsessed with privacy.
+Dpatel, I am not sure if you have a good chance to get a double AND private bath if you are a first year. Most people get one or the other (e.g. triple w/ private bath or double w/shared bath between two doubles). If you are a second year with a roommate already picked out, it is quite possible though. points to self

I had 14 premiere last year, and I ended up with 60+ meals left over at the end of the quarter. In other words, a big waste of money. So I went with the 11 a week plan this year - not having rollover and not being able to swipe more than once per meal period is a pain sometimes, but its really not that bad.

quick question - you are only allowed to place a request for a housing type OR a particular roommate... not both, right?

yeah about premier 14, that's designed for students who go home on weekends? if im gonna live on campus for the whole week wouldnt i need premier 19 or gold 19?

You can request both a roommate and place. :)

I have 14 and I go home for the weekends... I have a bit over 60 swipes left. So, maybe you might want 19. For some housing/meal plans there is no difference between 14 and 19...

thanks agentmichi,

i'm guessing that the chances of both requests being fulfilled are very rare?

no you can request both, but its certainly not guaranteed that you will get both (or even one for that matter)

I know people who got their requested roommate and housing structure. So, it probably is not too rare.

When you are a second-year you get to pick your roommate and exact room number... :)

I got both my requested roommate and housing structure... this year, at least...

The closest example I can think up of is that both my friends requested each other for roommates in DeNeve/Sunset, and ended up roommates in Sunset, although I'm not sure if their bathroom is private or shared.

14 or 14 premiere is good enough for most people if you don't eat breakfast or if you eat lunch on campus. It basically gives you 2 meals a day, so choose what you want (most prefer to use it for lunch and dinner).

19 or 19 premiere is a lot, it basically gives you 3 meals per day (except only brunch and dinner on weekends), and most people actually don't eat this much haha.

11 is good for those who eat on campus and don't eat breakfast or those who will go home often as in almost every week.

should we be applying for housing NOW or is it okay if we wait...?

just apply before the deadline... someone post the deadline im not sure what it is for freshmen admits. but definately ASAP so you can take care of it... you don't want to miss out on housing!

yeah I never eat breakfast, and rarely lunch - dinner is usually my only meal, which is why 11 works fine for me, even though I never go home.
Your chances of getting what you want housing-wise is not determined by how early you apply, so don't worry about that - just get it in before the deadline.

During my freshman year, I applied for 19 Gold - worst decision ever. I rarely found the time to eat breakfast before my morning classes and ended up wasting a lot of my meals until I discovered the wonder that was Puzzles' late night coffee smoothies (that no longer exist). Now I'm on the tidy 14 Premier plan and will finish this quarter without wasting a single meal thanks to the drink-exchange system. I could never pull 11 meals a week like Icarus because I need some sort of caffeine in the morning, so I stock up on Frappucinos with my excess meals.

until I discovered the wonder that was Puzzles' late night coffee smoothies

wow they had coffee smoothies? haha i never knew that

yeah i suppose i would not eat a lot in the morning either =\ just milk, toast, etc. btw are u allowed a fridge or microwave in dorm? would be kewl if they do.

May 2nd is the deadline.

You're allowed a micro-fridge in your dorm (which you can rent from UCLA). It's a refrigerator, freezer, and a microwave.

If you bring your own, make sure that it uses a certain wattage; UCLA is very strict about not overloading the power supply (at least from what I have heard).
