I got pardee, and none of my real choices....Can anyone give me some info on pardee?

chicka, any advise for tranfer housing? also how do you think the social scene will play out for an incoming junior?

Pardee is less social than some of the dorms, and it doesn't have the nicest accomodations, but people still like it there. It still is pretty social compared to a lot of places you could live in. The floors are done by gender.

Thanks uschicka, i'm still really bummed though, I wanted a really social dorm. I feel like a bum now!

Did any of you get your roommate assignments too?

I applied really late for housing (last weekend in May)...so Im not expecting much in terms of rooms...

wow i'm so disappointed. i didn't put down marks tower for any of my choices and i didn't think i even sent it in that late (roughly mid april).

is there any way we could apply for a change?

Yoursomoney, Pardee is still a fun place. You'll have a great time.

domino- I don't really know much about the process of transfer housing. Did you already apply for housing? Or do you do it later?

Seems like so many didn't get their choices! I wonder if you can swap if you don't get the dorm you want. My son didn't get any housing info yet - . Can he check online to find out?

yellowpages- with your housing assignment there should be directions for reassignment.

ebay- I don't think you can check online for housing, but things may have changed since my time.

In response to reply #9:

ek1000, Does your contract have the line "This assignment is part of the following special interest program: PARKSIDE INTERNATIONAL RES COLLEGE"? If it doesn't, then that means you're in Parkside, but not the IRC program. I guess that means you just can't take a part in whatever activities and stuff that IRC does.

I originally thought that you had to apply for IRC to get Parkside, which is what I did. But I guess I'm wrong. But oh well, I think IRC might be worth it.

Ouch, I just looked at the copy of my app I kept and what I got was actually my 7th preference out of 8! And I sent my app the first week of April!

How is Fluor tower? Not many people talk about it...I wanted parkside because it was near the engineering buildings but I got the exact opposite. It sounds awesome, though, to have a common living area+ microwave. Is the social environment OK there?

redski59: What page of the contract mentions the special interest program??

edit: haha nevermind! "This assignment is part of the following Special Interest Program: New Residential College"

:D

Flour Tower actually isn't that far from the engineering buildings, litlx. It's closer than all the other freshmen housing (minus Parkside). Flour is actually pretty nice. Webb Tower is going to be worked on next year (which is right next door), so I don't know if it'll be loud or anything. The people I know who lived at Flour had a great time. Whenever there is suite-style living it will be less social than dorms, just because of the living situation, but Flour isn't that bad. There will still be parties, and you will still have all your roommates if you don't know your floormates very well (although the one I know who lived there knew her floormates well).

Wow. I just got my housing contract, and I figured that I got into Fluor because I had gotten e-mails asking if I wanted to join the Latino Floors, which are located at Fluor. Low and behold, I actually got into my first pick, Birnkrant. Yippee! That's interesting. Plus, those e-mails said that they couldn't wait to meet me at Fluor, so I figured that it was pretty much a done deal that I was going to be living at Fluor.

I was just wondering if not having air conditioning is a big issue in California, because it seems like most of the dorms don't.

I live near San Jose and our house doesn't have AC. It's not bad for us at all, cept for about 4-6 weeks during the summer (and you won't be on campus anyways). I might bring a fan because I'm thinking LA is a little warmer on average. Either a small table fan about 3inby5inby12in (l/w/h) or a larger 6inby8inby3ft depending on how much other stuff I'll be putting in my room.

It does get very hot in the summer months and it continues into the fall. However, it's dry heat, so it'll be much more bearable than humid heat. But I say bring a fan, because you will most likely need it.

I live in Orange County, and I've visited San Jose and San Francisco numerous times these past summers. I would also say that LA summers are hotter than Nor Cal summers. It can actually get pretty chilly near the bay in SF. But of course, that's near the coast.

It seems that i'm the first one to post about getting an off-campus apartment..

I wanted North Business Floor; my first three choices were dorms...I can't even remember if I put Century as one of my choices or not...

Well, at least I have more room xD

Also, for yoursomoney, when i visited USC on it's Admitted Students Day, i visited the dorms and i saw one of the rooms had a little...i guess portable AC machine thing...i guess they plugged it into an outlet because you can't physically alter the dorms..the room was pretty cool. comfortable enough....

...i guess a fan would work too...heh
