I like everything Owen (the guest blogger) had to say, except one thing caught my attention. Housing applications in general used to be due July 1, I believe. Now he is saying May 1. This is separate from the application to the RLC, as it was before also. It is the form where you give your top 3 dorm choices and a preferred roommate, if you have one. But he goes on to say to wait on the roommate selection until after Orientation, which was the advice I always gave as well when the application deadline was July 1, after all the Orientation sessions. So I am going to write him tomorrow and see if I can get a clarification about this.
OK, Owen got back to me. He forgot to include in the blog that the online form, while due May 1, is editable until the end of June/July 1 or so. So if you meet someone at Orientation, on Facebook or another social media mechanism, or by some other means, you can have all that info into them before they actually start finalizing room assignments. He has updated the blog to reflect this.
He also clarified that Wall no longer has a separate application, even though it is an RLC. Honors Program people get preference, and if there is space remaining they will take students from the general student body. Since Wall is so much nicer than Butler, it will be interesting to see if it fills up with Honors members. Weatherhead (SoHo) is still an RLC as well, and is primarily designated honors, so there are actually 5 RLCs at Tulane now. He didn’t include that in his blog because it is only for sophomores, and the blog was about freshman choices.
