So I have absolutely 0 clue about characteristics of each residence (I read the brief descriptions on the website but they don't tell much). Could I get some advice?

If it helps, I'm a math guy.

Did you watch the i3 videos and read the booklet of information that came in your admissions packet?

Nop. Where can i find these i3 videos? Also I don’t think I got anything like a booklet in my packet other than one for financial aid O.o

First of all, join the MIT Class of 2015 Facebook group - there’s a lot more of us there. And second, you should get a packet introducing you to all the housing choices by this weekend. So just hang on!

For the record, it doesn’t really help at all – there are people from every major in every living group. People sort themselves into living groups based on much more salient personal characteristics than intended major. :)

^Random, however, is math majors-heavy. If you think you’ll be happy living with a bunch of very mathy people, it might be a great fit for you!

All 20ish i3 videos from this year’s i3 DVD are online now! Take a look at them: [YouTube - MITi3Videos’s Channel](http://www.youtube.com/user/MITi3Videos)

Didn’t you get your gigantic packet of information yet (Next Big Mailing)? Everything should be in there. They may have changed things, but that’s how it worked back in my day…

No one expects you to make this decision in a vacuum! Don’t worry, there is information coming You also have all of REX to decide where you want to live, so don’t get too stressed out about picking temporary housing.

@k4r3n2: MIT has gone green. No more NBM’s!

@Jeff - I don’t think that’s true as my son got the 56 page Guide to Residences, along with the DVD and separate Parents’ Guide all in the mail this week. I thought I’d head they weren’t sending out physical “rejection” letters, but he did get a whole hardcopy acceptance packet and now this.

@marciemi: yep, I got that housing guide/DVD too. What I meant was that MIT doesn’t send out a hard-copy gigantic package containing information on advising, orientation, FPOP’s, freshman academics, forms to complete over summer, etc anymore. These collectively used to be mailed in a big package called “Next Big Mailing.” Admission officer Mikey Y. specifically confirmed in one of his blog entries that there would be no NBM’s for Class of 2015er’s and beyond. Hence the comprehensive “First Year” website (http://web.mit.edu/firstyear/2015/).

Yeah, the housing guide / DVD is what I was talking about.

LastPrime – it might help to look through the admissions blogs (mitadmissions.org), especially the old ones. Many of the bloggers posted descriptions on their dorm culture and facilities, and I found them to be very helpful. Possibly even more so than the i3.
