I was just admitted as a transfer student and at the moment SD is my top choice(still debating between SD and SB). Human Biology major at Warren.

I plan to try and live alone in either a studio/1 bedroom apartment. Ideally close enough to be in walking distance of campus, but I know that might not be reasonable due to availability or cost(any suggestions for complexes/good areas would be nice).

I'm wondering if UCSD is commuter friendly, as in parking is available without fear of not finding a spot and the traffic is reasonable.

You will always find a spot on campus. There are tons of open spots everyday. The issue is that those open spots are usually in the furthest parking lot from the center of campus, but UCSD has a shuttle that takes you from that lot to the center of campus. In that way, it’s seem pretty commuter friendly to me but I don’t have any other universities to compare it to.

I agree that good parking spots are really hard to find. I’ve seen 4 cars waiting in line to get to the available spot. Sometimes when I walk across the parking lot, people tend to ask me if I am leaving but I don’t. This happens in Muir parking lot though but I guess if you park somewhere else that’s not so popular, there are spots but it could still be a pain in the ass since you somewhat have to walk to your class. UCSD campus is huge. What my friends are doing is that they live off campus, they have cars, they don’t buy a parking permit, they take a bus to school, leave their cars at home.

Thanks for the answers. I have no problems walking a decent amount to get to class(up to 1.5miles is reasonable I think).

Is the Village a decent place to live? That might be an option also if I can get a single.

I’m looking for some feedback regarding housing as well. I’m looking around University City and La Jolla for a one BR apartment or studio. Ideally I’d like some place that I can bike to school from so I don’t have to worry about parking. I wish that UCSD offered unfurnished single apartments to older undergrads. I’m in my 30s and have furniture that I don’t want to part with, so the Village transfer housing is really a non-option.

Two places that keep popping up online are Canyon Park Apartments and Torrey Pines Village. Does anyone know about these places?

I’d really like to score a little single near the beach, but one thing I’ve noticed is that it’s not commuter friendly as far as biking goes. I’d probably have to hitch the bike to the public bus. Public transit is free for UCSD students right?

Village is pretty decent, actually I think it’s the newest one on campus! However, I heard that they are only doubles there, not sure though. It’s like the uppermost part of the campus so you gotta walk to class, but it’s doable don’t be scared of what I just said.
I really have no idea about off campus apt since I am still living on campus, sorry.

The village does have singles.
