Hey everyone! I’m extremely confused about freshman housing. Are there specific freshman dorms? If so, what are they? Which, in your opinions, are the 5 best dorms? I looked on bu’s website and everything was very ambiguous. Help please!!! I’m filling out the Housing Interest Survey and any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are no official "Freshmen Dorms", but freshmen are most prevelent in Warren and The Towers. I have heard that a percentage of every dorm building is reserved for freshmen, but I assume this doesn't hold true for places such as the student village which are specifically for upper classmen. I don't remember what exactly I put for my survey, but Warren was my top pick and the Towers, Shelton, and Myles Standish were also on there somewhere.

My one suggestion would be to pick a dorm that has a large freshmen population. Even though some other dorms you may be able to get into have more preferable living conditions, they're goona be packed with upperclassmen who already have found their set of friends and generally arn't as eager to make friends as the freshmen are.

On the other hand, if you're extremely confident in your ability to find a whole bunch of people you fit in with, ignore my last paragraph and go wherever you think has the best situtation (biggest rooms, best dinning hall, private bathrooms).

west campus has a lot of freshmen, too.

the most popular freshmen dorms are warren, west, and towers.

shelton, hojo (575 comm ave), and myles have some freshmen but nowhere as many as warren, west, towers. there are no official "freshman-only" dorms, but unless it's specialty housing (russian house, spanish house, honors house, etc..), very few freshmen get placed into anything other than what i mentioned.. even if you put it on your housing survey.

west, warren, towers, shelton, and myles all have dining halls. west and warren have the best dining halls.. and they're "freshmen" dorms.

this thread might help: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=168863&page=1&pp=15

also..

http://www.bu.edu/union/backdoor/ .. the BU union backdoor site (but despite how it's almost the bible for dorm-choice info, i disagree with a lot of the stuff they say. take the info lightly)

http://www.bu.edu/housing/residences/largedorms/index.html ..BU's housing site

http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=bunite ..BU livejournal archive.. click on any of the links about housing and dorms

don't go crazy with studying all the info. know the general stuff about each dorm, pick one, and relax. enjoy your last few days of high school with your friends.. don't stress the housing.

Don't be left out of the loop check out what current students are saying about their dorms.

WEST CAMPUS:

West is a great place to meet new people as an incoming freshman. But, there are many things that should be fixed (elevators, bathrooms, and room conditions) especially for the amount of money we pay to come to school here.

Specialty housing residences are definately like a hidden gem. Hardly any upperclassmen apply for them (its the easiest app. ever), and some of them are wicked brownstones on bay state and south. For you CGS kids, the CGS house is flipping amazing.

That is true. Once you come to BU you'll say "wicked" too since its a wicked school! All this angst about housing. It seems to be about a 90% chance you'll end up in Warren, West or Towers unless you request a specialty floor or house. Am I right?

I'd say so...

GOBU: Do you live in the CGS house? What's so amazing about it? Btw, that was my first choice; however, I don't know what my chances are of getting it...

I will be living there next semester but have friends there now and have spent alot of time there. It was renovated just a couple of years ago, and is just awesome in every way. First of all, you walk into this brownstone, and you are just in awe at the, ahem, mahogany wood everywhere, and the stained glass windows. It is actually 2 brownstones joined at the first floor. One of the brownstones has 4 floors with 2 rooms on each floor and each floor shares 2 restrooms, where as the other building has 3 floors and had about 4 rooms on each floor. There is a kitchen and tv in the basement, as well as a washer. For anyone going into CGS, I urge you to choose this specialty housing. Unfortunately as of now, all the female spots are taken, but for guys, there are a few open. Either way, def choose this option if you can, it's wicked sick.

Oh almost forgot to mention, most of the rooms in the CGS house are triples, and especially cool for the women, there are 2 walk in closets in the triple. I for one am a guy, and in a double, and have my own walk in closet, am not complaining.

I mean, after a year living at West, the CGS house is like living at the 4 Seasons or the Ritz. Besides StuV, this is possibly the best place to live on campus.

GOBU: Thanks for the input. It sounds great!
