Housing contract cancellation

hey

im a student residing in one of the dorms but i do not get along with my roommates. i desperately want to get out of the room and have spoken to the rd and housing office but they dont let me cancel the room contract because its a roommate conflict.

i have also tried to switch into other rooms using the open-room transfer period but they didnt seem to have a space for me to transfer into.

now i am lookin for an off-campus housing to switch in.

a) if i can find a place off campus, is it possible to move into the new place without getting into trouble with the housing office?
b) will i have to notify the housing office of my getting out?
c) can i get the refund for the rest of the year for which im not gonna be living on dorm?

thanks for your help,

go to the housing website: 2007-2008 Housing Contracts
and read the fine print of the housing contract. there's a bunch of things dealing with housing contract cancellations.

cliffsnotes version:
-you need approval
-if approved, you pay $150 cancellation fee
-since it's after jan 29, you'd pay ANOTHER $150 late fee
-you will be refunded for the rest of the year (aside from the $300)

you aren't going to get a refund if you don't cancel your contract, so you can't just move out without notifying them and hope to get paid back.

do u have any idea as to how difficult it is to get the approval?

nope 10char

It's pretty hard to get the approval unless you have a legitimate reason like medical or financial reasons. You need to write a letter of appeal to the people. Also you should provide documentation to further strengthen your argument. I'm actually in the middle of it right now bc of financial reasons, but i don't think i'll get it approved bc i did not explain it well enough and document it correctly in my letter. you'll get your refund if they approve your contract. hope this helps. btw isn't there open transfer period next quarter?

yes there is. but i think the chance of transferring is low. i feel like i made a huge mistake in choosing to stay in the dorm because the housing office is not really caring for the students...

start asking around NOW for potential room swaps. if you find someone to swap rooms with on campus, housing should be fine with it since you've saved them the legwork. but it's up to you to find someone.

duh, they just want your money.

Can't you guys just duke it out?

man F this school. almost everything that needs approval requires medical reasons. unless a person is hit by a car whenever he/she need something done, they're out of luck

/rant

Hit by car, gotcha!
