Housing Contract

I just got an email from UF asking me to complete my housing contract, and that if I don't by Feb 28th, I'll lose my spot in "line" for housing preference. I have a good place since I paid my housing deposit ($25) in September, which is before most others. So if I do end up at UF, I should have decent housing priority in terms of the freshman.

However, my question is this: does completing the housing contract equate to committing to UF? Or is it just another step in the housing app process to guarantee a place in line for preference? I want to have a good spot in case I do end up going to UF, but I'm not going to commit just by completing the housing contract...

I’m curious to know the answer to this. Did anyone else get this email? I didn’t…

From what I remember (started in 2007) it’s just another step in the housing process. Also if there is a fee, it’s most likely non-refundable if you do decide to go elsewhere.

Housing deposit ($200) is separate from tuition deposit and intent to enroll.
If you pay $ 200 housing deposit and decide not to attend UF, you will not get refund. However if you do not pay by the deadline you lose you spot in the dorm selection line which will leave you choosing what`s left and that might be temporay triple with no A/C.

What person above said. Honestly, try to figure it out before the end of the month. Worst case do the 200 deposit and if you go elsewhere you will lose it.

Perhaps I’m reading this wrong, but it seems as though there’s also a cancellation fee:

$200 plus $200 cancellation fee? Yeah, no. This is pretty ridiculous, tbh.

Can someone explain to me how UF housing works? I got the email and filled out the contract, but I didn’t pay yet. I applied in mid-September. Is the date you pick your housing based on when you fill out the contract or when you first applied? Just wondering if I should pay right away.

@Gabby: it’s from when you paid the $25 housing fee.

Will we be able to select the room/roomates or are they assigned based on when we payed $25?

I’m reading it as that you’ll just lose the $200 deposit … not an additional $200.

They would have a hard time collecting an additional $200 …

Yeah you’re right. I just went through with the contract and it just says that the cancellation fee will be deducted from the advance rental payment. Thus $200 cancellation fee subtracted from the $200 deposit means there’s nothing extra to pay.

I never got an email, but I logged in to myhousing and I can see my contract. After you verify your information is correct and it submit, you can go to the preferences link and choose your hall/room.

Yeah I just found that, thanks!
