Hello,

I am a freshman at Warren. I know that Warren offers only double-room apartments. I want an apartment, so I choose "apartment" in the corresponding option in the Housing Contract, however the option with "single/double/triple/no_preference" does not change. What does mean? If I choose an apartment and a single options, will I be placed in a single-room apartment somewhere else (not Warren) or will this "single" option be considered only when there is no apartment for me?

I asked the UCSD about this, but it's been more than a week and still no answer. My major is comp.eng and I definitely don't want to change my college.

I requested to change my major to CS. Can this somehow affect my housing at Warren?

Besides, I am an international student and I need an apartment, because the uni's policies don't allow to stay in dorms on holidays. I am from Russia and it'll be really hard to pack up and leave the uni the same day a quater ends (due to the frequency of international flights). If I am not provided with an apartment, should I contact the uni and describe my situation? Will it reconsider its decision?

Thank you.

I would definitely try to call to get a quick and straightforward answer. I’ve always wondered what International students did during the holidays. Airplane tickets would be expensive and unconventional for international flights. If I still couldn’t figure it out when the time comes, I would just stay in a hotel or something for the minor holidays and go home once during the summer and winter break or something

Yeah, I agree that I can stay in a hotel for 1 or 2 days before my departure, but it’ll cost me additional money… Calling them sounds like a good idea. Thank you :)

Are you not kicked out over breaks if you live in an apartment style dorm?

No, you are not. You can find this information on this link [url=http://housing.ucsd.edu/contractinfo.asp]UC San Diego Housing - Contract Information/url

There is a better proof that states that apartment-users are allowed to stay during breaks, but I simply cannot find it, it is definitely on the housing.ucsd.edu

Off-topic:

Should I take that Chem Placement Exam or not?

Have you taken a look at this?

If tells you if you should take the placement exam, and if you are unsure, you can always take it out of curiosity. I don’t believe the results are binding–you can always take something other than what they recommend.
