So we all know we put $25 towards housing when our kids applied last year. Now that he's been accepted he has until March 11 to complete contract and pay another $175. I'm fine with that, but what happens if after he gets all other decisions at the end of March and decides not to go? Do I loose all $200? or do I have to pay a penalty on top of that.
BTW, I find this to be excessive, specially when they know students apply to many schools

I’m in the same boat, but I opted to complete the contract since I don’t want to be left without housing. I’m waiting for like 4 or 5 other schools that’ll release their decisions in April. If you paid the $175, you would lose all the money, and you would have to pay a $100 dollar fee on top of that, which totally sucks. I don’t have to pay it immediately, since I have Florida prepaid, but eventually, it’ll be paid, and if I don’t end up attending, I would end up losing a lot of money.

I read this:
First year students must send an admission cancellation request via email to the admissions office, and receive written confirmation of approved admission cancellation, prior to requesting a Housing contract cancellation. Students who cancels their admission and wish to request a cancellation for their Housing Contract, must complete a housing contract cancellation request through the housing portal, prior to May 1, 2014 to be assessed a lower cancellation fee of $100.00. This is considered an Early Cancellation.

as $100. You have to be careful to read the entire sections fr different versions.
Am reading it right?

What it is saying is that in order to get the lower housing cancellation fee of $100 versus $150, you have to request an admissions cancellation. Regardless of what you do, if you do the contract and later cancel, you have to pay a fee.

I don’t think that’s what it means …I interpret that as if you pay the initial housing contract fee ($175) then early cancel, the fee is $100 - meaning you get back $75 of your $175 deposit. UF keeps the remaining $100 as that early cancel fee. I did this last year at 2 other schools for my son who is a freshman now and that’s how it worked there, which is pretty standard for institutions that require housing fees before the May 1st deadline (thankfully not all are like that). So you don’t pay an additional $100 fee on top of what you already paid. You just don’t get it all back.
