So after reading about how the freshmen class of '20 is the biggest in history I was worried my daughter might not get a dorm room on campus since she did her application late, after researching the Housing page on the UT site it says that if you have received a housing contract then you are guaranteed a room on campus. YAY, I feel so much better because she did receive a contract already, she probably won’t get her first or second choice but at least I know she will have a room on campus.
I’m sure you’re relieved @amottmers I don’t understand where we’re at. My son just committed so they said we will receive a contract after he committed. BUT he did his application back in December and according to the website, housing is determined based on application date, not contract date. So does that mean my son will get housing on campus? I find it confusing.
If he just committed, it takes a few days for the housing contract to be generated. Watch his MyStatus & email for a notification about the availability.
They will send out final room assignments in mid-July-ish.
Thank you @bookmom7 . And final room assignments will based on the order of the application date, not the contract date, correct?
@d101parent -correct
I committed a few days ago, and I did my housing application back in March which is pretty late I believe. Do y’all know how likely I’d be to get a housing contract and/or my preferred dorms?
@amottmers How late did your daughter do her housing app?
She did her app the middle of February, I think it only took a few weeks maybe a month to get a housing contract. I think they wait until you commit to send out an housing contract, I think you will get one because you did it before May 4th, they are cutting off applications on May 4th because they know they are getting low on space. I don’t expect my daughter to get her first or second choice because she picked Duren and San Jac, you might not get your first choice.
My D is in the same boat. She applied for housing a few weeks ago. I called the housing department and they said she will probably have a contract by June. They said they can’t guarantee it. But, it has never happened that they have not been able to accommodate people before.I read this on cc) When I called housing, they were up to Feb. 6 housing contracts. Last week or the week before someone said they were up to the end of February(also read on cc) So, hopefully now they are up to March sometime. It all depends how many people applied at certain times. Sometimes they move through quickly. Others it takes longer. Also, there is a possibility that she could get supplemental housing. Each dorm has this. When there are a lot of kids, they use lounge space to turn it into rooms for 3 or 4 people. the rooms are bigger, and accommodate everyone. Sometimes the kids like it so much they don’t want to leave when an opening becomes available. Read this thread. They helped put our minds at ease. If it helps, I remember reading about kids that applied in the summer that got housing - it was supplemental, but they still got housing. There are probably other threads on cc that are helpful about supplemental housing at UT. My D doesn’t want Jester, which seems to be the most sought after dorm, so I hope that will make a difference for her. Good luck!

Thank you guys! I feel slightly better but I’ll probably still be nervous until I actually receive a housing contract! Also if I may ask, how did your daughters find their roommates if they have already?
@hopefulehfar my daughter has not found one as of yet, I’m hoping maybe at Orientation.
Aww that’s nice, unfortunately I won’t have that opportunity because the earlier dates are full
@amottmers did your daughter receive her housing contract by email or through MyStatus?? Because I just checked MyStatus after a while and it says I’ve been offered a contract and that I should accept it soon, but I haven’t gotten an email.
@hopefulehfar She might have gotten a notification by email that she got one and then went to MyStatus to accept it and etc… but I don’t remember, I have heard that many people have updates on their MyStatus and the email notification comes days or weeks later. Did you accept the contract? Don’t wait.
I haven’t accepted it yet, I just discovered it today. Was your daughter under 18 when she accepted the contract? If so, did you sign where it says student signature? Because on the contract it says the parent or guardian must sign if the child is below 18 and I’m only 16 (turning 17 in a few weeks!) so that’s partially why I didn’t accept yet. Also, my AP stat test is this week on Thursday so I planned to finally properly look at college stuff starting on Thursday @amottmers
@hopefulehfar I believe she signed it, she turned 18 right around the time she got the contract so I’m pretty sure she only had to sign it. Your starting college early, my son started this last fall at UNT, he just turned 17 last month.
@amottmers yes, I skipped the ninth grade, is that what your son did too? It sounds like he’s actually two years ahead
@hopefulehfar He got into the TAMS program at UNT, it’s the Texas Academy of Math and Science. They take 200 high school juniors each year and they attend regular college classes and live in the dorms (its like a dual credit thing), so when he finishes next year he will graduate high school as a sophomore in college. It’s a little different but in a way the same as starting college early.
@amottmers oh ok! So like TAL/TAHL I’m not sure which one but it’s the exact same thing but with Lamar University! And I feel like they take 50 instead of 200, I’m not actually sure
My son just got an off campus apartment so he freed up one room at Duren
