Housing Contract

USc requires you to submit an 800$ deposit to secure your housing. If you cannot pay this, is it possible to defer payments, or pay only 400$ for fall and then another 400$ for spring semester at a later point, or use your loans/finacial aid?

Thanks

The $800 will be billed to your student account and become part of the total that will be offset by your financial aid. You can also sign up for a payment plan to spread the payments on that total monthly over each semester. If you are having any difficulty paying before the deadlines, comtact financial aid right away to work out a plan that will get you through.

Thanks so much. You’ve been a great help :)

Just a clarification for others reading this thread: Only a $40 deposit is needed to apply for housing, and the $40 deposit does not commit you to attending. The larger amount is only required to *confirm your contract *after you have decided you will attend and been offered a specific dorm. It would not be due until late August and can be offset by financial aid.

For new students the $800 needs to be paid by credit card or check, only returning students can have it billed to their accounts. However it does go towards rent, $400 for Fall and $400 for Spring.

The Application Fee is $45 and is non-refundable, it also needs to be paid by credit card or check.

trojanchick, does this mean you cannot defer payment or pay 400$ at the offset? Or should I call USC once I get my financial aid package if I cannot afford 800$ right away?

As far as I know you cannot defer it, since normally fees aren’t included in Financial Aid. However, you can try to call the housing office to see if anything can be done.

Because alamemom said it can be offset by FA…but I guess I should get the answer straight from USC.

You can contact the housing office and tell them you cannot afford the deposit without your financial aid. They will then bill it to your student account.

Whenever you have any doubt, call USC. They WANT you to attend, and they understand that financial aid is essential for many students.

You will also have the expense of orientation coming up that you should contact them about. I recall it costing about $300 plus travel. If you are coming from far away and traveling twice would be a problem, there is one orientation session right at the end meant for Internationals - students can just stay on from orientation and not make two trips.

It WILL work out!
