Housing contract

Is anyone having trouble getting into the housing contract page? All I see is the contract for 2009-2010. Any suggestions? I want to deposit today.

Hmmm…

Call Housing and ask if they are aware that the old contract is still up. They may not be aware of it. People have probably been using the old one without realizing it.

I just finished paying our Housing Deposit for next year.

I read through the whole housing contract, but I don’t remember the dates shown.

Wait, is it time for CURRENT students to pay next years deposit as well?

I think current students don’t have to pay next year’s deposit until spring when they recontract.

We’re talking about next year’s freshmen making deposits now so they’ll have first pick at dorm room selection in the spring.

Current students begin the process of recontracting in late October, when they inform housing if they plan to live on campus next year. Selection one’s housing for the current students will be in February. It is about that same time that they pay their deposit.

Momreads is right…
**
Returning **students “re-contract” in October.

It’s a 3 step system done at 3 different times, so PAY ATTENTION to each step’s date.

1) recontract (in Oct)

2) pay deposit (sometime after Christmas)

3) room selection

Again, this info is for returning students.

New students do things differently.

This email just came for returning students.

*The housing application for 2011/2012 is now available online. To access the
application, please go to housing.ua.edu and click on Apply for Housing. In
order to be eligible for campus housing for next year, you must complete this
application between October 1, 2010, and February 1, 2011. Please note the
following points to assist you in making decisions about your housing for next
year:

· Only the housing application can be completed at this time. The contract and
deposit cannot be submitted until February 3-14, 2011. You will only be allowed
to submit your $250.00 deposit if we can guarantee that you will receive campus
housing.
· Completing an application at this time does not commit you to housing; it only
makes you eligible. You are not committed to living on campus until you submit
your contract and deposit. So, if you even are just considering living on
campus at this time, you should submit your housing application before February
1, so that your options will remain open.

Again, new students need to follow a different schedule and deposit early.

Hokiefan here again. I guess we were just too anxious or early this morning. The page I looked at this morning is gone and has been updated. Current contract for the 2011 school year is up. The deposit has been sent. We are on our way…

Roll Tide Roll…

Woohoo - congrats, hokiefan! And thanks Mom2k for the info. I would feel lost without the cc community!

Thanks for the heads up, mom! Is there a priority when son signs up to return, like there was for new students, or just anytime between Oct and Feb to tell them he wants to live on campus again?

Montegut: There is no priority in terms of the sign up. Current students will begin selecting their housing in mid-February. They will be given the option to remain in their same suite and room or can move to another building. Selections for housing will be based on credit hours earned.

Current students are not signing the contract and paying the deposit until February. Right now they are only applying for housing. If they apply and decide that they don’t want to live on-campus next year, they just don’t “sign” the contract and pay the deposit, though it would be nice if they e-mailed housing about this before February rolls around. I filled out the application right after I got the e-mail about recontracting.

Oh gosh, its Oct 1 already. Guess I should get on that.

Just paid ours! Thanks for the reminder :)

I wouldn’t count on that.

Bama knows that some returning students who want housing will not be accommodated. I realize that there is a priority by credit hours, but at some point, they may also need to put those who applied late on the waiting list.

For instance, if they can only accommodate 400 rising sophomores who have 65 credits, but they only have 350 spots available, then they might look to application date to decide who goes on the waiting list.

M2CK: If there is a big demand among upperclassmen interested in on campus housing, perhaps this would be a good time to offer some incentive to those students to move to the Bluffs? Maybe better transportation to and from campus? A little better price?

^^^

Definitely better transportation to The Bluff and The Retreat (although I don’t know if there’s some housing agreement with The Retreat even though the CR does go there.)

Don’t know if Bama is going to let The Highlands be available next year.

I also don’t know if The Bluff has any/many vacancies.
